Yo-yo questions I have had

I have wanted to ask some yo-yo questions…. that I believe I should already know… but have not ever discussed with anyone of any authority to give me the answers. Form authority I know how reliable I take the chance with you guys and gals.

  1. anodizing
The darker the color makes the Ano thicker? is time a factor in thickness?
    Reason
My black OD Panorama has what feels like almost a hard coat

  2. weight distribution
    Center weight =
    Rim weight =
    Reason
I have Ti Orb side effects what ever put them in, they smooth any vibe in the throw completely out. I also have an assortment of Brass side effects that do not smooth throws out to the same effect if that makes any sense???

  3. String length and yo-yo size progression
So does or did this happen to anyone else ?
When I was new to unresponsive, throwing, I made irrational assumption at the time that to be able to do complex tricks I needed to have a smaller yo-yo and longer string. Length to the top of my sternum. This resulted in lots of older dinged up throws 2010 888 and a red and silver Punchline Repeater. Since that time I have come back to 4 fingers above the belly button is where the loop ends with a 1 to 1.5 inch loop.
Yo-yo size just faded away when I started throwing larger throws I still prefer a smaller 50 - 55.
    Reason
I picked up a throw that had an older longer string and it felt just too much, sloppy… felt if I had just listened to the yo-yo videos that kept saying around the belt line area was a good place to have string length. I may have progressed faster with less damaged classic throws.

That is what you are suppose to do with throws play them even if it damages them. Said to me by an older wiser happier player than me at the time.

I will look forward to responses to my questions, stories and anyone else’s questions.

Everyone have a great 1st week of the new throw year.

  1. Darker anno is thicker
    Source: i play 3a
  2. Idk what youre asking with this one
  3. Shorter string is easier to control period. Idk how that relates to the yoyo size. Like it doesnt. Shorter string is just always easier to control.

I apologize the 2nd question it is a bit lacking

What does center weight provide

What does rim weight provide

Trying not to take shape into consideration I know shape will change things a bit more as wider throws tend to change this making the explanation a more nuanced one.

Center weight is less stable than rim weight. So your yoyo is more likely to tilt off axis. This isnt a horribke thing it just makes you concentrate a bit better. Also if you are trying to manipulate the angle of the yoyo, the rim weight goes counter to that. With side effects just roll with the ones you like. Also, the heavier ones will make your RPMs go up. So if I want more spin power I go with brass, personally, because of the weight.

I try to go fir the shortest string a yoyo feels good in. My micro yoyos all have pretty short string. If it is narrow and hard to hit the gap I go shorter. I dont mind long string on my wide yoyos, BUT sternum seems like way too much string IMO. I dont really use anything longer than my bellybutton personally.

Fwiw, 6 ft string is possible. It may not be fun but it is possible

Rim weight lowers initial rpms but increases total spin time. More center weight increases initial rpms but decreases total spin time.
