To be honest, I can’t even remember how I found the Scissortail, I just know I’m glad I did. The first thing that came to mind when I opened the box was, “Wow. Dude went all out!” The yoyo came in a (very nice) custom tin with foam insert, along with two stickers and one refrigerator magnet. There were also four small, high power magnets in the bottom corners of the tin for sticking it to a fridge or whatever. They went all out.
As for the yoyo itself, the Scissortail might be the most unique in my collection. It’s big, let’s get that out of the way. It looks big, it feels big in your hand, but it doesn’t really play big. At first glance I expected it to play rough, but I was completely wrong. It’s extremely nimble and easy to work with. Hitting the string is almost automatic, and it feels way lighter than it should. I’ve played more than a few H’s of varying playability, but I think Yanasi got it just right with this one.
The finish on the Scissortail is top tier. The yoyo looks striking in person, the Red Mare being a deep earthy tone. It’s very smooth with no noticeable vibe, and has very impressive spin time. Grinds are effortless with the exception of finger spins. They nailed it in their blog, referring to its “Hit-It-Or-Hate-It” cup. If you hit it, you get DNA All Day. But if you don’t, well then you’ve got the funkiest finger wobble ever.
Overall, I’m extremely happy with the Scissortail. It’s a feel-good yoyo all the way. From the story, to the packaging, to the piece itself, it puts a smile on my face every time I see it, and an even bigger one when I play it. Do the right thing, and check it out for yourself.
