Worlds 2023 Thread!

Incase anybody did not see it LOL!

Mannnn…no words. Mir Kim absolutely crushed it!! - Making even the top players look slow LOL - Definitely changed the game.

The flick of the wrist slack move he does is so sick among everything else of course

I agree. The amount of control it must take to move that slack around his wrist while the yoyo just sits there. His whole routine blew my mind.

Thank you for posting this actually, because I feel like she’s being way overlooked by her brother when her routine was amazing as well.

Man to have a brother/sister relationship like that where you just push each other to get better every day at yoyo. It’s easy to see why they’re so damn good haha

Miri is so sick I like how relaxed she plays. I feel like tons of routines get eclipsed by the winning 1a routine like mir Kim was sick obviously like that boy just got really good and hard tricks and went hella clean. literally, all the finals routines I’ve seen so far have been amazing like Connor seals won my heart w the dancing and just straight fun performance, Tsukasa namba showcased some of the most amazing and creative tricks I’ve ever seen, Yuta kashiwaya showed how to present metaish tricks but in just a super sick way; I don’t know why but those tricks just look so sick, ryuichi nakamura put together the beginning to end just best performance imo like so so so good, etc etc but those were some of the standout routines for me. Like if a player is making finals at this stacked of a competition, they’re absolutely amazing and worth watching.

Yeah I think the whole top 5 kinda got overlooked because of mirs insane performance.

That horizontal stuff Evan did on the floor was pretty damn crazy. I wish he didn’t use that song he made. It’s too dull for a yoyo routine compared to like Mirs Led Zeppelin semi finals song.

Miri is so good. She’s definitely going to be pushing into the 1a finals soon, probably next year. Be crazy if it’s her and her brother going head to head for 1st some day soon. I can see it happening.

I’m sure this has been asked before, but why do they separate women into their own division?

To feature them and encourage more women to compete since this is pretty much a male dominated sport (as of right now).

Edit: Re-read your comment and wanted to be more clear… as @GTDropKnot they don’t automatically get put into their own division/are required to compete in their own division, they can totally compete in the regular divisions. It’s just nice to feature the women of yoyoing.

They don’t it’s a separate division for just women. They can compete with everyone in regular 1a if they want to. I had the same thought once.

I have a question I guess because I’m a curious guy.

I don’t really consider this a complaint, because I think the world presentation in the livestream, etc. was really the most excellent adventure this year.

I think anybody that watched worlds and wasn’t entertained are just those that refuse to have fun and appreciate the extensive efforts that go in to livestream, and behind the scenes to bring such an amazing contest to us all over the world.

So hats off and three thumbs up for anybody and everybody that was involved in the presentation of worlds 2023. Truly ranks as one of the top presentations of any contest I’ve ever seen in over 20 years.

Now that being said, and being a fair is fair kind of guy, I do have a question that’s just stuck in my head for some reason.

I may have missed something… So what I’m about to suggest may be completely wrong? I will find out soon enough because here comes a question. But first an observation.>

1A through 5A…… all the first place guys got a nice Contest jacket complete with the Worlds 23 patch.

Miri Kim gave a performance that not only scored her 1st place in the Women’s World 1A division, but a performance good enough to clobber a whole lotta guys straight up in any Contest.

Uh… I didn’t see her get a ‘Jacket’ like all the other 1st place finishers.

Maybe I missed that part, dunno?

I know she got a watch and a tote bag😳

Curious…

Probably for the same reason the over 40 open and masters didn’t get a jacket either.

They aren’t currently seen as equal to 1-5A and AP.

They was handing out some weird prizes like steppers and tote bags. I thought it was cool GoPro sponsored and gave prizes. They kinda are a big part of the yoyo community in terms of the amount of players use gopros to film videos and tutorials. Cool to see them giving back.

Thought this was cool as well for them to notice and sponsor the event. GoPro/overhead tutorials are absolutely the best way to learn in my opinion

Taka did make this post for anyone wondering what was going on regarding his ban. He states it was carried over from the jyyf.

Unsure what the original ban was for though.

More the story unfolds, more i believe wyyc2023 was used by an organizer to punish a business rival.
All the silence everywhere is making this logic come true in people’s eyes

My bet is that both parties are at some amount of fault. To me this seems like a complete communication breakdown between Taka and the JYYF, which… wouldn’t have happened for no reason. I’m sure the IYYF is busy sorting through he said/she said type material and just doesn’t want to mess it up.

But that’s the benefit of the doubt, without it the situation looks much closer to Taka being unfairly punished.

I just stumbled on this video of Gentry Stein performing at the welcome party they had in Osaka the first night. So good!! Can’t believe it only got 20 views. He still got it.
