Wood is Good

Just ordered a baldwin. For me it was a tossup between the baldwin and lovejoy but i chose the baldwin cause i hear that it plays more traditionnel and that the the lovejoy plays unresponsive and the whole point of me trying this was to try out wood responsive play.

Interesting, my experience was the exact opposite. Baldwin seemed unreliably responsive. I’ve found my Lovejoy to be just right. Decided to try silicone in my Baldwin, find out what happens with that tomorrow…

On the other hand, I’ve been working on getting forward pass stalls down.

If you haven’t tried wood, you have to at least give it a try. ;D It’s all kinds of different from an unresponsive throw.

It coitanly is, Ollie…

I wouldn’t know, I sold my Lovejoy to RobbieG and he made that killer video with it. Kids these days. Sigh.

The fellas.

Also, results of the tea-stain and my feeble attempt at carving…

My Baldwin is fully responsive like a any old wood yoyo, great for stalls. My Love Joy, on the other hand, is fast becoming my favorite thow of any I have.

I got one of the modded butterflys! YES!

Huh, must just be mine then. The silicone I threw in works great to make response more consistent. I put it in one of the divots on each side of the yoyo. Haven’t formed a preference yet between my Baldwin and Lovejoy however.

Throw on!

So I have a free mount and I put a hubstack spacer on the axle to make a little less responsive but when I screwed it in one of the little circles in the middle of the yoyo poped out. Just wondering if it will affect the play without one of the little brown things.

Just picked up the Lovejoy today. I have to say by far my fav TMBR yet. What a nice yoyo this is!!

It’s just covering the screw head. Won’t affect anything.

Thanks dude.

Sili’d more of the divots on my Baldwin. It’s lots of fun! I still cannot land stalls very well with it though. Must be the shape for me seeing I can land them all the time with my LoveJoy.

Wouldn’t mind a larger diameter on the Baldwin. Actually, a mid-H shape would make me ecstatic now that I think about it.

Sharing this with the group as it’s simply too nice a set to be missed…

WOW… OMG… That’s crazy nice! Brings me back to my early years!!

It’d be nice. But there’s no way I’d spend 500$ on that, considering I need to save every penny.

Some of that stuff is definitely BC-era Tom Kuhn and I wouldn’t have thought that it was worth the price that it’s fetching so far. I was ready to go knuckles down for 300, but that plan failed quickly.

Here’s an oldie Wood Is Good, made about 10 years ago…# 11 of 20:
