This was mentioned on that Bolt modding tutorial that you linked to, but do you remember that brief moment in time that we were using razor blades to make o-rings flush with the surface of the yo-yo? I totally forgot about that until just now.
It was YoYoJam’s response to hubstacks! While digging in to see if it directly inspired the nine dragons I found the “V5 Catch Zone” which is like the skeleton for a Nine Dragons, and it turns out several other yo-yos were released based on that same platform
Looks like a pretty good response to me (though maybe not so much commercially since I’d never heard of it til now, haha). I’d like to get my hands on a throw with one of those designs someday.
The yoyojam hubstack do-dads had the spinning post mounted to the caps. I have some I’ll try and dig up, but you would pull the caps out of yyj yoyos and put them in, and they came in two sizes, one for hitman size yoyos and another one for the regular size yoyos.
On a side note, every YoYo I’ve owned with O-Rings has failed. All the O-Rings cracked. It’s the reason I stopped buying YoYoJam back in the day. To be fair, I live in El Paso, TX, a very dry climate.
It’s so dry in El Paso, all of my YoYoJam’s cracked, not just the O-Rings, but the actual bodies of the YoYos. The YoYoJam bi-metals I owned the rings fell off.
