Yes, please. I’d like to hear some details. I used to have both an Avalanche and Cascade but I dunno if that tells me anything about the Summit, really.
If you watch the video again, you can hear Chris say that the side effects don’t make any difference. I thought the whole video was a little awkward to watch. I felt tension in parts, especially the part where they were talking about the weight.
@neptar : I missed any specific references to side effects, that’s for sure. Might have to watch again.
I noticed a touch of tension here and there, but I’ve worked in collaborative environments for much of my professional life, and it’s expected when there’s any sort of passion on either side… so it didn’t really “stand out” as anything less than normal. Collaborators disagree, squabble, and get annoyed with each other, but at the end of the day they’re working toward a common goal so that stuff becomes unimportant and even irrelevant.
i have played with all 3 … and I can say that it plays totally different from the avalanche and cascade
if anything … this thing is SOLID as heck… and I mean SOLID like … even at horizontals … like the SUMMIT actually helped me get better at horizontals cus it is so balanced. I mean seriously … its ridiculous!! in a crazy good way
I have to say though … that if you prefer something really light and floaty then the Summit might not be a great fit … you will still be marveled though at its crazy super balance and solid play.
i mean… my friend… who’s skills are way beyond mine … has not bought a yoyo in 3 years but when he played with it… he was amazed at how solid and balanced the SUmmit was … and he just ordered it… oh and he was grinding the summit on his hand like semi vertically like on one side of the rim and it stayed that way long enough for him to bind from his hand while it was grinding semi vertically on one side … i mean he was like … "look did you see that … like it stayed that way … and kept its balance " ← yea you dont see that alot … or atleast I have not … so yeah i would say its the most SOLID and balanced yoyo I have EVER played
i think the summit is very light and floaty, but i can see how it is solid and stable. its stable, solid, floaty, and light all in one. very hard to describe, i really do think its light and floaty, but stable. i think it needs a little more weight, IMO. but everyone has an opinion. i think the summit represents the cascade and avalanche, but without all of the extra weight. it feels almost as light as a puffin to me. but that not at all a bad thing. its a very good throw. the width is like a cascade, but with the main shape of an avalanche. think of it as a lighter avalanche. very good throw, stable and light, and floaty. recommend it to everyone looking for a great yoyo, lol
Personally i think it’s a mistake designing a yoyo with stock ultralights. the point of side effects is to customize the weight. If a yoyo is designed with ultralights in mind, then the only customization option the customer has is to make it heavier. I’d rather see it designed at 66g with spikes knowing i could bring that down in the 64g range with ultralights or up to 70g with various brass options.
@NathanC : we’re connected at the brain. Exactly the same thing I said earlier in the thread (you probably didn’t catch it); it just doesn’t make sense to me, either!
i did add spikes to mine… and it added about one Gram to the whole weight … and I actually agree with you guys … should have came with the spikes…
oh and Greg … let us know what you think …
and to add to my post earlier … about it not being floaty … everyone has their own opinion … but I am very open minded and I can see why I would say its not as floaty …
mainly because I have been using the BvM2 prior to using the Summit … so I definitely noticed it was not as floaty (as light ) compared to the BvM2… that is all…
and I actually went from liking heavier throws to liking lighter throws … but in the end its personal preference … curious to see what more of you guys think…
also … what do you guys think about using silicone as opposed to the stock clyw pads? … i wonder if it will make a difference…
I don’t know what color I bought! It’s going to be great when I open the box and find out!! I just clicked one randomly because I was so busy at work! Awesome!

How is the response? I ask because the shape of the inner wall by the response looks just like the Cascade and I am so-so about inner walls with an edge like that. More taper is just my personal preference.
Having said that, this release has been the most excitingly community-oriented yoyo since the Code 1. …And having said that, I like to be slower on the yoyo purchase trigger and wait until the excitement abates and some reviews come in. CHeers to all that snagged a Summit, I look forward to hearing how you like them.
guys just wanted you to know i talked to yoyoexpert and they said that the mint green is actully a hair lighter in color than the dark green and the pictures are different
Chris at 14:50 “The rims effect it more than the SideEffects do.” That’s a lot different than you quoting him as saying they don’t make any difference at all. Chris and I agree that .5grams makes more difference in feel the further away from centerline it’s placed. Also, we had a room full of some of the best yoyoers in the world, they agreed on the final version. I take that to mean that the yoyo is ready for the stage.
