Hey fellow throwers, just an FYI the technique that is used to make these colour patterns is called hydro dipping. It can be done with paint but in this case it’s used in conjunction with anodization to dye the ano layer this way. Water transfer printing (a form of Hydrodipping) can also be used to put a graphic in ano or you may have seen bows or rifles with camo patterns? Same technique. - Hope that might help anyone that is looking to recreate this in the future!
They gave me one, I traded it for an MG in England. Sigh.
Yoyojam did hydro dipping and these definitely do not feel anything like that
you can hydrodip with paint (Which is what i’m assuming yoyojam did), you can also hydrodip during the anodization process where the dye will get into the micropores created during anodization.
I asked gruntbull awhile back about getting a yoyo done like this and he called it a swirl. He did say that it can be done as a dye-sublimation with patterns but he doesn’t do it that way. Maybe someone with more experience can give more input.
Not sure how you can hydro dip anodization, at least as I’m thinking about hydro dip, where the graphics are just a film sitting on the surface of the bath. The only way I’ve ever seen colored anodizing is with the dye dissolved/ mixed into the electrolyte (which isn’t water)
That being said, obviously idk how they do those swirls
hydrodip for anodization may have been the wrong word, but i dont think the process is too dissimilar from hydrodipping paint. ic ould be very mistaken, my understanding of the process is very limited.
Wholesome yoyo moment
I literally think of you whenever this yoyo pops up. Now don’t sell it
Lol, as long as no one offers me an ungodly amount, we are good, lol
Happy to see you got it
You and me both, thank you for your good memory and pointing me there. My memory is horrible.
