Wherein I declare war on the DV888

So that’s the real question people are asking about. I guess if that’s the direction, I’d ask why is Duncan still selling the metal axle imperial and the butterfly.

But those two are fine, at roughly $5 a piece. They work just fine for what they are. The Dv888 on the other hand is $30…

And a YYF Whip is $6.00.

Ummm yeah it’s thirty dollars. Do you have any idea how many kids in elementary school run around with way more than that in their pockets? Thirty dollars isn’t what it used to be to a lot of parents.

If enough people are willing to buy a product, any product, and the product is profitable for the manufacturer it most likely be available until it the public stops purchasing it. Just sayin, not everyone that loves to yoyo loves yoyo forums or researching yoyos.

Yes, and the they probably discourage more people from yoyos on any given day than all of the of the DV888s ever made.

@jhb8426 But… but I started on a Duncan butterfly… and look at me now!

Honestly, I don’t even feel qualified to talk about this because I’ve never actually played or owned a Dv888. I don’t even hate the thing, I would actually like to play one just to see what all the buzz is about. I bet I could get it to sing :sunglasses:

Unpopular opinion: the dv888 is an amazing yoyo. I have owned 2. I really liked them. Both were unresponsive. One I ended up hubstacking. They do all types of grinds really well. Super fun, little yoyo. Maybe not the best for competition. Maybe not the best for learning on. But it’s fun to me and that’s what matters to me.

Thanks for sharing your experience. To often those that have differing positions are hesitant to share after others have made strong statements to the contrary. Good on you! :+1:

Do they discourage people? Why?

Well, right, except when you are known for “awesome yo-yos” selling one that is rather the opposite of awesome… kinda tarnishes your brand, doesn’t it?

But sure, if your corporate goal is to embody “we shove out crap and put it in bags for as much money as possible and hope people buy it”, then … er … godspeed, I guess?

I mean if it was an old stock blowout I’d understand, but they raised the price by $5 and made a new splash for it.

I’ve handled the DV888 more in the last 2 days than I have in months and every time I touch it, throw it, mess with it, emphasizes that I’d rather be playing with literally any other yo-yo in my collection. Except the nine dragons but I sold that one a while back. If you jumped in a time machine and magically made it 2008 again, I’d class it as “OK”, but in a world of vastly better choices today (many of them for less money!) it is really just plain bad.

Will it kill your dog and burn down your house? No. Does it meet the basic fundamental criteria for being a functioning yo-yo? Yes. Is it still bad? Yes.

When you look at the price of the DV888, you’re getting quite a bit of 6061 for the price. 50mm diameter and 67g! That is weighty for it’s size!

Just shaving off a few grams would instantly make it a much better yoyo!

Who… exactly are ‘you’ to make such a groundless assumption regarding the motivations of two legendary guys that are an integral part of yoyo history/present and future?

How can their keeping current one particular yoyo in their vast YYF line up; stimulate your negatively laced misguided statements; that converts 2 hard working guys to an,’ Embodiment of Corporate greed; turning out crap and hoping for sales’?

You take an accusative and assumption posture; literally based on ‘1’ yoyo out of dozens of yoyos. 1 yoyo that you feel does not represent a good $value?

Why do you even focus any cries of displeasure on a single yoyo that you don’t have to buy? That you don’t have to recommend. That you don’t have to throw or even touch?

The level of Integrity and degree of character and their money generating motivation, aspirations and/or end goals; cannot be calculated or concluded; based solely on the current availability/price/value of 1 product.

The DV888 is not a bad yoyo. And if you put it down on a table next to 10 yoyos that all play better; that still does not identify the DV888 as a bad yoyo. Just not as good as other or newer yoyos.

…This thread is now over 100+ posts long. For one yoyo that nobody has to ever: buy, use, suggest, compare, compete with, trade for or whatever else.

So the majority of posts in this thread should either have opinions on how the DV888 is not a good value at its’ price point.

Or attempt to pinpoint an underhanded profit generating scheme.

Simply Amazing😳
