What Spin Top Trick are you working on?

Demoralization is a real thing, with real effects. It might be time to change it up. I hear juggling with fire is rather exciting.

You are going to gain from that practice in ways that might not be obvious now. I think it’s great that you are going to compete on your home turf. There is a huge disparity of abilities with top players, but one difference is that some guys would call working 4 hours on one trick just an easy training day cuz usually they throw tops all day (or yo-yos, kendama, whatever skill they dominate in.)

Keep at it, you never know how things will shake out at a contest!!

I can’t catch these boomerangs, I don’t even want to try something on fire :fire:!!!

Totally get the motivation part! Your videos are still cool to watch and gives me and I’m sure others some ideas and our own motivation to learn!

Big home run whip will be the middle of my intro, but the ending here. But more importantly I’m just powering through the mistakes. I’m not going to get frustrated with it. Dropping it is much worse than these screw ups so I’ll just kill em with consistency. lol

I actually work on this a little every day though I don’t talk about it much. This is wheel of fortune. This and Snap Start (mostly snap start) are the reason I got so frustrated I quit a while ago. The progress is slower than 2a because you don’t actually see progression. Just a hundred broken Trompos. lol.

I can’t leave it like that, gotta get the catch lol. Getting more consistent. This was only two attempts after that one. Crazy though you can see the top is spinning faster that’s why I’m turning the wrong way to correct my placement but it doesn’t seem to matter as long as the movement is good

That’s really strong! I want to learn that, but two things off the bat, that top should come with steel toe boots, and it is an outside only top for me!

That trick looks really impressive but it is hard to get the feel of.

Is that trick the same move as this? I can’t quite see if the tip always faces you?

Yeah it is! The tip is out at the top and the crown is out at the bottom. But all the precession happens in the bottom quarter of the arc. I believe there was a few conversations on the name. But the originator of the trick called it rueda de la fortuna I believe

Can you explain the string at the bottom to start the rotation? I just can’t see if it is a wrap like at the bottom of a sewing machine before you pull up or what it is.

The very first pull is backwards. You start kind of tip out but it’ll get into that sewing machine latch just as you pull up. Then it’s Tip out with one loop to latch as it flys overhead. This is all LOOSE. You’re just following it. Zero tension. Then as it comes back down is where you provide the tension with your left hand. You can see my arm movements are a little exaggerated because I’m still not very confident in this trick lol.

So it’s latched on by one twist at all times. TA0 allows it to fully twist once more before starting so he has basically two on it. But he uses a big heavy top. That seems to choke mine out.

I’ll use the other Sara with the yellow top so you can see it’s precession better. If you look at my very first one it’s tip out all the way around from the beginning

@kevinm , I am in no way an expert as you know lol. But here’s my take on Suns and the beginning motions into Wheel of Fortune

Thank you!

That is very clear. I just needed the bold print version with explanation! It is too fast for me to see in most vids, that helps a lot!

The weather here should be better next week and I hope to be finished painting . I am really looking forward to practicing that. I still can’t believe how well you are throwing that top, and inside, by a window!! A lot of folks watching this may not know how heavy that top is, watching you throw it so effortlessly.

Yeah spell correct had changed painting (or whatever I actually typed) to panting. Really kind of takes one in a different direction. I have been painting.

Oh yeah. Honestly the Sara is heavy AF. When I first bought it I was actually scared to even throw it!!

Disclaimer: For safety’s sake, please do not try this at home. This is filmed on a closed course by professional drivers.

Ok. Nerd alert. But I was feeling cute. Might delete later. I like these suns because they’re completely upside-down. Trying to get out of my comfort zone and move around more for the stage presence.

Found this, tried a bit of practice at the park. This trick is tricky..

I’m just gonna say it. Your top is spinning too fast :laughing:

If the top is spinning too fast, is that going to cause it to fly off the string to the right? That’s what usually happens. Tops are so counterintuitive.

I was actually making a joke but now that you say that, yes. Neff mentioned it a few times also that this is a LOW spin speed trick.

As an example, my Sara is very heavy. The first two suns I do are very careful and you’ll notice I stop at the bottom to wait for position because the top is spinning too fast. One fellow showed me to do one at a time, pop it up into a roller coaster and right into a sun. So individuals rather than wheel of fortune. That’s a good way to practice
