What shape do you prefer and why?

Spot on. I like to think of them as big rounded kind of O-Shaped yo-yos, smooth, flowey and circular/half sphere shapes

Your motion perpendicular is an organic shape. It’s the shape of the catch zone or profile of a yo-yo. O shape, V shape, H shape, W shape are all common shapes of yoyo profiles. They all have their own characteristics of play. Organic is for O shape. Of course there are endless hybrids of all of them

So, to my way of thinking, and let me know if you disagree, you can have a pretty organic yoyo, that’s not really an O shape. The Rainier, for example, is pretty organic, but not really an O, like a Koi or Cloudberry.

Wouldn’t that be an organic hybrid H shape. I love my rainier.

That’s probably a good way to describe it. Or maybe bell shaped?

But I think they are describing the catch zone as a profile, an amalgamation of both halves opposing each other. So the “bell” doesn’t work in that sense

Rounded W with a response step I would say :face_with_monocle:

Anyways I think this is a bit silly at this point, you can’t really put most yoyos into defined boxes based on shape anymore, but we as humans sure love to categorise things.

Yeah the possibilities are endless. But a question was asked and I was trying to help clarify an answer.

More O/V hybrid, honestly

The one that gets me is, how wide do the rims need to be, to go from a V to a W. Most Vs have at least a little rim.

It looks fairly bell shaped to me.

1/4 of the profile definitely resembles the curve of a bell. I agree :100: so does the crucible and milder and a good portion of clyw along with countless others

Three people, one says the Rainier is more V, one says more W, and one more H. I think we just illustrated the issue!

I agree with @NuroVolt7 There are to many variables anymore to categorize most yo-yos by shape

Back in the day W shake wasn’t really a thing, Sleipnirs and Protostars were just considered V shapes.

Sleipnir. Excellent example. Most everything can be called a hybrid shape now. The rainier can be a o,v,h,w hybrid. But then the alchemik’s and so serious and x3 Zeus would also be o,v,h,w hybrids.

I prefer slight organics and H-Shapes since they fill the middle finger area very well

I was waiting for someone to give me the middle finger. :joy:

I like really sharp, heavy, angular designs.

They may not be as playful or comfortable in-hand as organic shapes, but the sharp, competition oriented style of angular Yoyos suit my needs.

Also sharp designs are easy to come back to and are more consistent, but that’s just me. :face_with_monocle: It’s like eating Mac n Cheese. Always something you can come back to, because it always tastes the same lol; V shapes all the way!
