I’ve been throwing a ton of star shaped yo-yos in the last couple months. Onestar (no longer with me), northstar (without caps), protostar, asterisk, and maybe more. I don’t think I’ve ever thrown a metal star shaped yoyo for a significant amount of time. But, there is also a ton of variety out there, like the hypernova and PC hypernova have been getting a lot of hype lately (budumtiss). I’m wondering, what is your favorite star shaped yoyo?
I don’t know if I ever thought of calling them a star shaped YoYo, but the Hypernova is an awesome throw. I haven’t tried the pc version but I’m assuming it’s equally awesome.
I had to do some googling I’m still not certain which came first but I guess the protostar and severe both came out in 2009, but I’m now going to call it a star shape

The Severe was first, but the Protostar was built off of the Severe.
This is just my own conjecture though but the response bump was such a big innovation and distinction, that the star yoyos lacking it make them their own branch of lineage past the Protostar. I think the Rockstar and Supernova are distinct enough to exist in their own lanes.

OG Rockstar for me, I always wanted one just because it’s the only version actually shaped like a Protostar. It plays pretty close to a Supernova actually, but slightly more dense and powerful (TP vibes). Really surpassed my expectations because the Genesis and Supernova got all the love while it was around.

I think there’s a lot of Superstar (John Ando) and Genesis. I always figured the shape was a compromise because getting G5 style rims in a plastic yoyo wasn’t possible at the time, hence why the PGM was what it was.
That’s a glow protostar that’s all plastic, right?

Closer to a Protostar by weight + round cap really
OG northstar, my first yoyo.. gotta pick one up again one of these days
