Asterisk_Feature
The Asterisk is the latest release from MK1 YoYos, created in collaboration with team member Erick Osorio. This model is a tribute to the golden era of plastic yo-yos, reimagined with a modern edge and precision performance that makes it an instant classic.

From the start, Asterisk was designed to embody the transparent feel and classic play of early 2010s plastic yo-yos. It’s soft in the hand, easy to throw, and offers long, fatigue-free sessions—perfect for players who love to flow. But don’t let its laid-back feel fool you—the Asterisk holds its own in both 1A and 5A play, and even surprised testers with its potential in 3A.

Built from machined POM plastic paired with 6061 aluminum weight rings, the Asterisk blends premium construction with nostalgic inspiration. The aluminum rings are designed with subtle stepped features and angular drops that not only improve aesthetics, but give each colorway a unique focal point—either with a raw polished cut or custom ring engravings.

The profile is comfortably familiar: a tried-and-true shape that’s been refined with small, deliberate touches like a gentle response bump and a step down from rim to catch zone. Conservative dimensions enhance its control and classic-inspired performance, making it a joy to throw whether you’re practicing, competing, or simply enjoying the feel of a well-balanced yo-yo.

The name Asterisk comes from the Greek word asteriskos, meaning “little star”—a fitting title for a yo-yo that shines with personality and poise. Years in the making, Asterisk has earned its place in the MK1 lineup, and just might earn a permanent spot in your daily rotation too.

The cut in the ring wasn’t in the prototype photos. Fascinating!

IS that good/bad? Curious cuz these look BOMB!

This looks very good. I like POM yoyos, and POM hybrids are even better.

I do wonder how loud it is (i.e., the bearing) during play though.

Not particularly loud unless the bearing goes rattly.

The prototypes had raw aluminum rings, so no opportunity for fancy stripes. On these production Asterisks it’s a raw aluminum stripe cut through the anodizing, similar to the Dynames.

Oh wait, I didn’t notice the stripe in the first photos you posted, so I thought they were protos. My bad!

I’m all over this one…. !! …. looks likes a beeefed up YoTricks Sage! X2 blue green orange

Nice work, Mark.

In my experience owning one since nats its about as loud as your bearing is. If you got a quiet one, it’s quiet.
