This was an incredibly thorough post and I really appreciate the time it took you to write it out. I am glad I’ve found so many other people that love the beautiful simplicity of organic yoyos. They’re simultaneously nostalgic and indicative of all the possibilities of yoyos and the stepping stones that yoyos have taken, and the journey they have been on. I’ve had a lot, lost a lot, and I still love everyone I throw.
The Contact (my own organic!) grew out of combining my favorite features of a couple yoyos. Notably, the One Drop Markmont Classic (I have a neat soda-blasted version), the A-RT Grail, and some design characteristics of my own earlier yoyos. It’s flattering that the Contact is a favorite of some of you folks here!
Side note: schmoove rings . The Bolt2 arrived on YYE during my formative early months of modern yoyoing. There are a few design elements that I was inspired by and used in my own work, despite never playing it. It just looked right. I recently bought one, way too long after deciding I should. I shouldn’t have waited!
The One Drop Panorama is one of my favorite recent monometals. It’s a good complement to the Contact because it’s a bit more dense, much slimmer, and has those cool side effects. It actually has very similar dimensions to the Bolt2, which I urge you (the reader) to check out since it’s a rad yoyo.
I love the Kappa, a bit over your budget but I don’t think you would be disappointed in the slightest. I definitely think it’s worth expanding your budget for:
The other recommendations within your budget are good too, but the Kappa is just fantastic IMO.
Keep in mind the Contact is Full Size where the Skyline is Mid to Undersized at 50.4mm in diameter. These don’t really compare especially since the Skyline has Hubstacks. Get a Skyline though if you are a fan of the old 888. Contact plays really close to the A-RT Grail at a fraction of the cost. The FH1AL is a great player as well.
The mowl q is criminally underrated. I oblige any grail fans who want something with a bit more rim weight to try this yo-yo out .
Other Yoyos I haven’t heard much are the mowl high wall , the creep the kappa , and the overture . I also like the down beat 2020 not sure if they would call that more v though
