What happened to Evan Nagao?

I don’t think Evan has gotten “cancelled” for it (yet, we’ll see what he does moving forward lol) but I can definitely see why a company wouldn’t want someone on their team anymore after they’ve given any kind of platform to one of the most well known hate groups of all time (and STILL want to post a video giving said platform), and then not just owning up to their wildly dumb idea/dancing around an apology for it. Literally any sane company in the US would do the same thing YYF did in this situation, it’s just a really bad look man.

Did anyone see the content though? If it was an educational Vice style “thing” that’s not promoting racism why is there a problem. Was it an interview? Did they yo-yo with the guy cause that’s a lil weird

I think that picture is enough to get them both fired. That is really unacceptable. Anyone that doesn’t understand why its unacceptable is not actually listening to the conversation.

Was this an actual thing or an example you are trying to make?

Couldn’t agree more. Like I said, literally ANY other company or organization in the US would drop the person that did anything like this ASAP. Glad something was actually done about it, I was worried it might be forgotten about or “business as usual” considering how big Evan/Angelo are. Blows me away that it’s 2023 and there are people who think this is “fine.”

This seems like they were trying to do some “I pranked America’s most racist man” type of satire video that Niko Omilana did… but it just ended up coming across as completely provocative and asinine. The kkk doesn’t care about you, they hate you. Why bother with them? Based off of the posts I’ve seen and some stories I’ve read about dealing with actual racists, you guys are lucky you didn’t get hurt. I’ve also seen this in person, these racist point of views are motivated by people that don’t like/love people for who they are and as history has shown… are willing to kill for it. Why associate yourself with that? To some people it’s a joke but it’s incredibly serious and dangerous to promote this line of thinking. Weird move, I don’t get it. Feels like this was done for a lot of attention and views, but promoting this, especially to a mainly child audience… it’s just dangerous and tone deaf. Cause… effect. Accept the consequences now.

In my opinion trying to understand and love your neighbor, even those that are morally corrupt and indefensible is one of the braver things you can do in this society. Now they probably shouldn’t have blasted it all over social media, but if done for the right intentions, motivations and in Love it can plant the seed for real change in individuals.

Yeah, and that’s a huge point that hasn’t really been mentioned yet. Imagine having to explain to your kid what the KKK is when they ask you because some wildly uneducated yoyoers posted a story/video hanging out with them… or worse, they don’t ask you, and do their own research, which leads to who the hell knows what, or at the very minimum - the normalization of a hate group. Literally hell nah bro

After watching Evan’s video I definitely am disappointed. I don’t know if he’s too sheltered to realize or just completely wreckless. The part adding in the guy was cool was just like come on bro, you serious here? That apology video was a fail.

I’m not going to be replying anymore but there’s always the topic of indoctrination. It’s a nice thought to love and understand your neighbor. I grew up Christian so these values were really set upon me growing up. But you have to be real as well. Most people who subscribe to the ideals of groups like the KKK don’t care about changing because their basic point of view is that they are the prime aspect of the human race and everyone else needs to change and not them. I understand the idea of the intention behind this. Ask yourself, would they have done this without posting about it or making a video? It seems different after asking that, in my opinion.

I agree. That goes to the intention behind it. I don’t know anyone personally so I don’t know what that was, but you’re right in that you can draw conclusions based on the videos being posted. I also agree it’s unlikely people change, but does that mean we don’t try?

Change is possible. Brainwashing is powerful. Nazi Germany is a prime example. Singular change is quite easy and impactful, but a continuous societal and global change are incredibly hard tasks that even martyrs like MLK just couldn’t achieve. But change is only possible if there is a willingness, and I don’t sense a lot of willingness. Last reply I promise

Thanks for the replies brother. Agreed , singular change is probably the best we can do.

Lemme make a couple of (I hope) uncontroversial statements:

Racism == bad

Giving racists a platform == bad

Giving non apologies after doing something like that == bad.

Being dropped by your sponsor =! (not the same) being cancelled.

People doing dumb things and undergoing the results of such dumb things =! the end of the world.

All involved are young yet (I’m close to Ben’s age I think so I also count him as being young) and have plenty of time to bounce back.

Regardless of what has happened up to this point… I’m actually REALLY worried he’s STILL going to drop the video he was planning to release. I mean, he said he would on the IG Live when he was done editing it.

I forreal cannot think of a worse idea than dropping that video. Kids will see one of the biggest figures in this hobby give a platform to a hate group. There will unfortunately be kids out there who watch this video and say to themselves, “You know what? This KKK guy doesn’t seem all that bad actually. I get where he’s coming from” ETC… Evan himself said on his live that the dude “wasn’t that bad” and was “actually kinda cool” which is just… unbelievably asinine. You don’t think kids are gonna agree with the yoyoer they idolize? Now you have a huge audience of children seeing a hate group normalized, and even being sympathized with.

I don’t think people realize how BAD it will be if he actually drops this video. Literally nuts that he’s still considering it.

I need to sign out I can’t keep a promise lol. Yes racism is bad. Stuff like this enables “casual racism” where you just go up to a racist entity or person and say “hey you’re racist” and “explain why” as if to form some empathy towards them as if what they do is okay. I’m not comparing this video idea to genocide, but the desensitization of racism and brainwashing of the general public and youth are what leads to genocide, like the holocaust. And yes, for some people these consequences are the end of the world, hence the 6 million+ death toll at the hands of racism and hate. Like I said, a “joke” is not the same as genocide, but it is a gateway to desensitization. It’s never a joke.
