What does Sirius radio cost?

When I bought a newer used car in 2016 I got a “free” 6 month Sirius promo with the car. When it was due to end I called to see what a new subscription cost. Lo and behold they gave me a new subscriber intro rate of around $100. When I got the order confirmation it noted that the renewal the following year would be around $250. When it came time to renew I called to cancel because it was too much money. So they gave me the same promo rate as the previous year with a renewal quote of around $250 again. The next 2 years followed the same scenario. Then the following year when I called to barter again I got a recording saying they were sorry that all lines were busy and they couldn’t take my call, BUT to make it up to me they would renew my subscription at the roughly $100 rate again. Now for the 3rd year I’ve had the same offer because all lines were busy.

My car also came with a subscription to Sirius traffic. When that expired last year I called to get that renewed for $70. This year when I renewed the special offer to renew my subscription didn’t include traffic so I called to get that as well. The nice lady said “Oh, I see you have the special introductory offer, so we can give you the introductory price of $38 on the traffic package as well.”

It will be interesting to see what happens next year.

My cousin had a similar experience years ago, he canceled his subscription and they called him back with a lower offer. I think he said it was $15 a year or something but I’ll have to ask him to confirm.

To be honest, I’m sure they’re still raking in substantial profits at 100 bucks a year so I’d bet they’ll keep you on at that rate indefinitely rather than lose you as a customer. Those who pay the full rate are just icing on the cake.

I just put the money into an MP3 player and loaded it up with podcasts.

I’m starting to think that the intro rate is the real price and the higher amount is just there to make you feel special when you call to bargain for a lower rate. Makes you feel like you won, so to speak.

On March 17th 2009, my girl asked me, ‘What do you want to do for your Birthday, tomorrow’?

I told he, ‘I’m going to Longo Toyota and buy myself a New truck’.

She laughed and said, ‘When have you ever made a decision in one day’?

I told her, ‘Today’…

So, I buy a 2009 Toyota Tacoma. One of the things it came with was a trial subscription of Sirius radio. I just let it expire because I couldn’t care less around subscriptions, lol… They contacted me on a regular basis, trying to tell me what I was missing. It’s been 11 years, now… I guess they realized I was Serious…. I never even figured out what it would have cost back then🤔

Ok, now here I am again. Some lady totaled my truck a few months ago. So I went right downtown and bought a New 2021 Toyota Tacoma. …… And, here we go again. A Fresh, rand spankin NEW trial subscription of Sirius radio. It’s only been about 2 months, and they are already wearing me out about ‘RENEWING BEFORE ITS TOOOOO LATE AND I MISS OUT ON THE ‘wonderful lower than normal discount that will never be offered again if I am too stupid or slow to JUMP on it’!

The other day, my son asked me if I had listened to the new Ac/Dc album yet? No I have not.
He said I could listen to the entire album on Apple Music(which I have)(never even thought about it).

So…. I’m listening to the album on my IPhone as I’m walking out to my truck. As I opened my truck to leave, I turned off the Apple Music app. As I got onto the freeway, I decided to listen to ‘something’. I click on ‘audio’ and the built in tablet on the dash says, ‘source’…… am,fm,Sirius,or. Bluetooth?

So I just clicked on Bluetooth for no apparent reason. And, Ac/Dc comes on, lol. So, it seems that the truck system recognizes the IPhone and triggered the music without me even touching the phone.

I just let it play and the system played the whole album🙀.

And since I didn’t make any other selection, the Apple app just started playing random stuff, like Led Zeppelin and Queen and Metallica and Hendrix, etc…

No interruptions/commercials/whatever… Just music.

And now that I know my phone app turns my truck into a rolling juke box, I guess I don’t have to Seriously consider Sirius at all. Hahaha…

The end.

My experience matches Doc’s except I was a little more motivated to go the extra step of plugging my aux cable in to listen to my music on my phone.

The Rollercoaster of price is typical of Sirius. If you let your subscription expire(or get really close), they’ll send a “special rate” offer to you. Last one I got was 3 years @ 100bucks.

I used an aux cable after upgrading my Jeep to a stereo that hosted one (before that I used a tape adapter), but it kept getting broken so I just use the BT connection now. It’s an unusual case of primitive technology actually being less robust than the modern equivalent!
