Got this awesome fixie from @RC_yo-yo and it is fantastic. Perfect weight for its size, great response (not quite loose enough for a kweej, bit probably after some breaking in), and damn it looks good. Can’t wait to get my ManGreeze™️ all up in it and really get that grain showing. Zebrawood and purpleheart with an Oak cap! Artfully done, and I’m a happy camper.
I used baking soda and vinegar. Sprinkle a little vinegar into the gap, then sprinkle a little baking soda in there, then soak a string (I used a broken cotton one but I doubt it matters) in vinegar. Wrap the string a couple times, then ripcord that bad boy a few times. Should clear up all the rust and rinse away the rest. Dry well with paper towel. Restring and get it spinning!
When I started reading the list I thought for sure the YWETi SE Mk 1 would be the stand out but then there’s this nugget of gold (or should I say nickel) buried in the list:
Absolutely do it. I’ve built one flat-top, two Maccaferri-style Gypsy guitars, and two archtop mandolins. I’ve got three solid-body mandolins in process, but they have been languishing untouched on the bench for about five years now - I’ve been having too much fun playing the others. There is nothing quite like playing an instrument with your name on the peghead.
