Long awaited epic mail day! I live in Canada but my parents have a cottage in the US so I often send things there to keep it simple. I hadn’t been in a while so I had a ton of mail waiting at our neighbors (such kind people).
TMBR/Zipline WOOD-Z - lovely yo-yo, thanks @CorbitsOrbits!
Another spare RBC in silver , thanks @Mhoodlum!
Two Maniax butterflies imported by @AaronW, thanks again bud.
Two Jon Gates yo-yos, they look so beautiful - saving these for Father’s Day.
Also not pictured is the new silver weekender - that is for my birthday in August - thanks @DocPop!
Some sweet Ziplines.
The Book of Yo, thanks for the recommendation @edhaponik. Found it used in mint condition for $15.
AND, surprisingly the PIECE DE RESISTANCE! An original Fireball glow in the package. This was my first yo-yo as a kid, I still have the original but it got smashed to pieces years ago. I’m so thrilled to have another one in the package, so nostalgic. I don’t usually do this but I think I’m going to keep this one in the package. If anyone is curious about where I found new old stock of the original fireballs, send me a pm.
Happy weekend all!
Copped the FD50 case as an “overflow” case, since I had a bunch of throws (all of these) pretty much just sitting out on my bedroom dresser. I actively throw them all, but had run out of room in all my other cases, so for awhile the dresser was the only spot for them - until now. Feels good to get them all cleaned up & in their proper home, and I’m sure my fiancée is relieved she doesn’t have to stare at 35ish yoyos on our dresser anymore
Definitely don’t hesitate to hop on the General Yo train! Not sure how familiar you are with them, but Ernie (@the_general) practically set the standard for smoothness a little over a decade ago when he started making yoyos. Pretty much any yoyo you buy today brand new is almost guaranteed to be perfectly smooth, but this absolutely wasn’t the case back then - besides a few yoyos (888 and Oxy throws come to mind)… most throws were expected to have some vibe to them. “General Yo smooth” was a common term you’d hear a lot, and a major compliment too. Their older throws are the cream of the crop in terms of organic design, and some of the best examples of old/mid school organics you can buy.
Here’s my General Yo collection as it stands today, you can definitely tell I’m a bit of a fan:
I’ll save you some $$$ and cut to the chase on what you wanna look out for if you wanna get into these awesome throws.
5 Star is probably their best all around example of an old school organic, IMO. Hatrick is great too but might be too undersized for some. If you like the 5 Star but want something a hair bigger and with slightly more heft, check out a Torrent II. (Heads up, most recent run of Torrent II’s are probably the cheapest way to get into General Yo, I see them for $40-50 on the BST all the time).
The two best modern General Yos are by far the Legato (if you’re looking for a comp oriented throw) or the Hatrick II (if you’re looking for the perfect modern organic). Ernie’s bimetals are absolutely something else. You can always PM me if you have questions about any of the throws or need comparisons or comparison pictures. @kretzschmar is also a huge General Yo fan and can help out as well.
Until this post, I’d been totally unfamiliar with General Yo. So thank you for that introduction, it’s really helpful! I always feel the need to preface my posts with this, but I’m a newbie - started in January 2023 - and I’ve learned recently that I really like organic throws. I love the way that they look and feel, but I must also admit that I find smaller organics a bit challenging. I’m unsure of what qualifies as “undersized” but for me I’m referring to like the Sudo/Parlay. I find that with a slightly bigger throw, e.g. a Creep, stability is much less of an issue. I’ve not found this to be a deterrent, however.
Aesthetically I’m really drawn to that 5 Star, and so I’ll keep an eye on thr BST here! In the meantime I might have to check out the Torrent II! Thanks again for all that good info! This place is the best.
Not a hole all the way through the side of the case. Something smacked into it pretty good in transit, the half with the dent is shifted to the side slightly in the direction of apparent impact. Would have protected any yoyos inside of it from the looks of things. Damage aside it seems like a damn good case. Organized all my stuff in it before noticing the damage.
Not to worry, Arthur at FD is taking care of it. Very fast response despite being a Sunday.
