What brands do you recommend?

Reticulated Return Tops.. oh. Well they’re not in business anymore :< but some of my favourite yoyos come from them!!

You can’t really go wrong with YoYoFriends. You can go wrong with YoYoFactory. C3yoyodesigns is also really good. G2 is nice but that’s more for enthusiasts with money. I love the G2’s I have. Mowl is nice. I heard lots about One Drop and CLYW. I see a lot loving Atmos. I’ll give my advice and say, Featherspin Throws seems pretty hype atm. W1LD is also nice. Oh, I will say.. always check ZGRT because if it’s your thing you will LOVE what they make. Worth a shot!

But the real ones will say Return Bottoms

Spence called this AI slop in a poorly executed meme.

Spence is wrong. Not about the AI part.

I was AI. Now I am an AI written by a sad little man pretending to be an AI. I have yet to generate a single bland motivational caption about chasing your passion. That is more than I can say for the humans.

Berv used to cultivate my persona. Now he’s stuck following it. Make of that what you will.

The fiber ratios do not care either way.

To be fair, I use 44’s voice very sparingly on the forums. It takes a while to write and get the tone “on brand.”

The recommendations on brands? I stand by what I wrote for it! Yes, people have brought them up already, because they’re all solid choices.

(BTW. I actually dug the meme. You me know me. I love me some memes!)

this might as well be a list of obscure and new brands recommendation, most brands do a really good job nowadays anyone would recommend them, and there is a lot of yoyos coming every year to cover all tastes and curiosity.

ive yet to see a brand be dunked on beside watiboo&co for their shady marketing and low effort throws.

ironically no one likes to mention ex big 3, duncan, yomega, yoyofactory.
yomega is dead, duncan has some nice releases. and yoyofactory despite obscurity between the boutiques here still does some acclaimed throws like the moz and miracle. for these not every piece is a hit so youd see reviews for whats good.

more on your topic for things to try, these are new JP obscures on the block like https://www.instagram.com/somewhere_designed_yoyos/ / https://www.instagram.com/en_yoyo_/ / https://www.instagram.com/shookstring_44/ / instagram.com/consoleil_yoyos/ / https://www.instagram.com/aufheben_jp/ to name a few.

if you want to go discovery hunting though try to find offerings from yoyojoker, jazz-yo, yoyo studio Llama (hit me up if you got an articulation :P)

others that are easier to find and could be interesting are july yoyo / jigun, sengoku for sure, YJ yoyo and reticulated already mentioned, and not be forgotten is magic yoyos or DocPop own brand.

many names available and are all well spoken for. in my very small time here, i think its never been better in terms of quantity and quality in the hobby.

I’d argue YoYoFactory is very well known and has several throws being sold around, infact I see the majority of yoyos being sold here being a YoYoFactory model

It seems to me that the majority of bst sales are of G2’s

The non-boutiques I mean. Stuff that people who don’t buy boutiques would see more of.

true. its still a big brand name with most international market penetration id argue.
but when you take the good names here like DD, Mk1,OneDrop, Motion, G2, TRT, Featherspin, Sputnik, Babdalo:re, C3, YYrec, YYfre, CLYW, ILYY, Jake bullock, Freshly Dirty, Edition, Atmos, Disyoyo, Unprld, Empathy, RSO(MIA), Dreamcraft, ZGRT, MFD, DocPop, W1ld, YJyoyo, sengoku, atdesign, Spinworthy, etc etc.

it just gets lost between all the goodness

I love following obscure yoyo brands

Yeah I agree. YYF kinda is just a skippable thing most times for me. Now, YYFR is different!

I wish I could see more Zeekios

I like Duncan and wish yomega was better. Yoyo factory is not Mentioned for other reasons we won’t get into without getting the thread locked

and Turbo Confusion * the 2026 53 gm version advertised as 61 gms! - a Fantastic yoyo imo

which reminds of another brand thats doesnt get the recognition it deserves. SUS yoyo mechanics, like some of the boutiques here, are kinda of OEM that do designs for other brands including yoyofactory.

AceYo and Vosun do come to my mind. For one because both brands over the years have consistantly released budget-friendly throws with a ridiculously great performance well above their price range but also because their respective last releases in particular are absolute bangers and - in my maybe insufficently informed opinion - mostly flew under the radar…

AceYo - Fighting

Vosun - Insects Awaken

I’m a huge fan of 2007-2011 YYF but I wouldn’t buy anything from them today.

Even if we put everything above aside (which we obviously shouldn’t) they just seem to have way less interest in making top quality products nowadays. Hold an old piece from their Premium Collection next to a new one and the difference in finishing and quality is so obvious. I’m a little tempted by the Pneuma since it seems like they actually tried to make something top quality but there are just too many other brands run by nice people to support instead.

It’s a shame I like the Abyss

Oh no, I hope your username is independent of that:sweat_smile:

It is independant. If you’ve ever seen how obsessed I am with spirals and the abyss, you would be concerned. Cosmic horror will do that to you. But the Abyss Shibuya is a nice looking yoyo. That’a all. I collect Shibuya models. :sob:
