GregP:
yoyo143, It all depends on your definition of value. As is often stated, once you reach a certain level with yoyo design and manufacturing, thereâs not much that makes one âbetterâ than the other; just different.
I am very glad to have paid full pop for the format:C. If nothing else, itâs just a beautiful objet dâart. Performance-wise, it plays at least as well as any other competition-grade yoyo Iâve played. Itâs in the same leagues as some of my favourite SPYY throws such as the Pro and (surprisingly since theyâre so different) El Ranchero. It plays alongside any CLYW Iâve ever thrown.
But is it an absolute revolution in yoyoing that will make you change your entire outlook on yoyos? No, itâs simply another beautiful and well-performing yoyo with aesthetic touches that are unseen until now (the âSight Linesâ).
It still has shortcomings. Although my first reaction was positive to the grinding surface, a few days of throwing just confirms to me that pyramatte is only âso-soâ for grinds. I have a difficult time with IRGâs⌠even though you can feel a lip, the transition to it isnât drastic enough and the thumb doesnât stay sunk in unless you throw at an angle.
So really, âis it worth it?â comes down to a few things:
Do you have a competition-style yoyo, and do you have a need for one in your life? If not, the format:C will fill this role and then some!
Do the aesthetic touches appeal to you? Instead of saying âmeh,â do the solid colours with the raw âsight linesâ make you go âWow, I love this!â If so, maybe you should treat yourself!
Are grinds an integral part of your style? If not, youâre losing nothing here! But if so, it might not be the ideal choice.
To be totally subjective and express solely my own opinion for a moment-- To me, the format:C plays exactly how a $120 yoyo should play. It stands alongside other companies with $140+ yoyos, though in some cases I think the latter are overpriced rather than ODâs offering being underpriced.
Anyhow. Iâm thrilled to have mine. You canât have it.
I might try one later. Iâve seen one under a counter, they look really amazing.

Cant put the G2 triton down!!!
Chief. Canât seem to stay away from it even though I have more high end throws. There is just something about it that makes me pick it up over the others.

Just got off a redeye flight and opened up my mail like a kid at Christmas. I received/am throwing:
1.Ninja Hurdles Arctic Circle. This yoyo is sick, already a favorite. Tied with Dietz for best purchase n 2013
Unengraved El Ranchero. It was a bargain and its a really neat throw, glad I got i
John Bot Sasquatch. I was worried it would play just like an OG Ava. It doesnât, they both have a unique style AMD Iâm glad I picked this one up.
Clareview Station Blizzard Canvas. Looks even better IRL than online, so glad I picked this over 28s. Plays sort of like a Peak and a FHZ on steroids. Really cool throw.
Alex Bearing-Gull Peak. Looks great, plays great. Sort of am impulse buy. Not sure I âneedâ it but my other Peak is one of the very few yoyos I own that I would actually be unhappy to damage
