Looks gorgeous. I would love to learn to make one of those!
This one was made by Dave Schulte. Check out his site and he has a video of exactly how he does it.
Love that video! Just watched it yesterday actually. Super cool. Thanks!
This one has a video history too, I got it from him when I was trying to learn regens and it was the only one he had already made. It definitely has a unique feel. Took it out for a spin Saturday.
Here is one that I designed and printed, just from PLA. Spins nice in the hand. When I throw it though, the tip flings around and can slap my hand which feels great
. Short circuit tip in it as well.
Looks great. So does it not spin if you throw it on the ground? I’m a little confused by the tip flings around! Looks pretty good though!
Looks great. Love the color.
My PETG print broke at the crown, but yours looks a bit thicker.
I think he just means it vibes.
It is .200" Thick all around. The bottom is variable since I had to design the seat for the tip. I have dropped it on my linoleum floors a bit but nothing too crazy just yet, as I have to have my instructor inspect it for a project haha.
Latest print. It’s pretty good. The tip geometry is a teeny bit off from what I want so I’ll probably tweak and reprint.
Anyone have tips for throwing a larger top like this? I keep tossing it and it doesn’t unwind the string at all, it just flops out.
Did you try the bowling ball toss? I remember watching a video where Neff was talking about tossing the larger ones that way.
This video was super helpful. Bowling toss works, but the real thing from this video I learned is that the larger tops are a softer toss and a hard pull back.
I have the same issue at times, just feel like I can’t get it to flip right. I throw the Sarah and Zoe normal with no issues, but some I have to do the bowling style just because I can’t get them to flip right doing it the normal way. The bowling style does take a little more finesse!
You have to wait until the spin starts to get established, then let it rip. If you try to go fast from the start, the string wrap just pops off. You may find that issue with a lot of tops.
Keith,
Do you purchase or make the metal tips? If so where can I get my hands on them?!
Looks great,
McKay
It does spin on the ground, as soon as it touches your hand or the ground the tip starts spinning on-axis. It is hard to explain haha. Basically the widest part of the top is spinning smoothly, but the tip is spinning off-axis “flinging around”.
I bought a variety of Spintastics tips from another yoyo site. This top has the Quicksilver tip (bearing for C sized). I also bought a few of their fixed tips and A bearing tips. The fixed tips are just inserted, no screw or other hardware. I’m thinking about trying to lightly heat inset it.
I would have liked if YYF sold the metal tips separately and not just in a pack.
