That VU album is so good. I was planning on buying it eventually but it’s really expensive.
Love me some Talking Heads!
Actually, the expensive one is the other one… a US first pressing from 1983, released in a limited run of just 50,000 copies.
Not bad, but give me David Byrne!
Nice! It looks like the setup from American Utopia on Broadway.
I have hundreds of records that just sit in crates. Why? Because physical albums are inferior to digital recordings. How does silence sound on an album? Pops, crackles; that are always playing during the music playback but is drowned out by the other music playing over it.
The problem lies in the DAC. Most DACs suck. They create music that is flat and usually tinney that lacks dynamic depth and resolution. I would urge record fanatics to focus on the DAC and save money on records and their associated equipment.
Get yourself a Chord Hugo2, and you will finally see the way digital music should sound. If you own a large corporation, or hedge fund; get the DAVE and live in sonic heaven.
All Chord DACs do is add unwanted distortion. Paying thousands for an FPGA based DAC is pointless because their only job is to be transparent, which in 2026 is a solved problem from pretty much any off the shelf ASIC DAC.
Spend money on your speakers or headphones, then amp, and then DAC.
I speak from experience. Chord does not distort the sound. The FPGA reveals depth and detail you never heard before. It is an amazing bit of kit. Worth every penny.
I agree that speakers should be your main expense. Spend your $$$ on your speakers. Active are always better. I have ATC speakers (passive) that cost way more than my amp. My ATCs sound better than my high price headphones (Senn HD 820). Someday I hope to be wealthy enough for a new pair of active ATC (SCM 50ASL).
It’s either this
or this.
How did new pain of truth not hit my radar?!!
