Lol, so if you rob a bank, then the police catch you and take back the money, you shouldn’t go to jail because “I gave it back”? Is that the logic you’re settin’ down?
It’s not up to you. He committed multiple felonies. I was not involved, so I won’t be pressing charges, but the people who were involved absolutely have the right to report the crime. It’s totally unacceptable to expect people to compromise on a legal issue just because a few people think he made good on it.
Do I think charges need to be pressed? I’m actually split on it. On one hand I don’t think people should be allowed to pull stuff like this, and I think a precedent should be set that defrauding charitable organizations and committing mail fraud is not what this community stands for. On the other hand, this issue is relatively small in the grand scheme of things and perhaps losing your reputation and business is enough loss for one man.
But as far as demanding that people not report a felony crime, that’s pretty much on the level of aiding in the crime itself.
I’ve been looking through this and I agree it Lexos. The dude did something wrong, big whoop the dude stole from a charity whoopy doo, no one was actually hurt from it physically and people donate to the ACS every day. He returned the cash he made good on it. kick him out the community if you feel he is unjust. This convo is pointless cause we are nothing more than internet people talking about things Humans do as a nature.
“Forgiveness shouldn’t be what we’re discussing here, it should be how to get him eating horse meat and sleeping with a toothless tweaker in the bunk above him for the next two years.”
I don’t know why, but the way you phrased that is riotously funny.
And how do you know horse meat doesn’t taste good, and how do you know a toothless tweaker isn’t as good of company as any other man? And why should the toothless tweaker get the top bunk? And why should this last no more or less than two years?
Seriously though, are you serious? Come on. I’m not inclined to forget this incident, but a little pity for Heath is not out of place. I don’t see why this should screw up his whole life to the point of locking him up for two years to eat horse meat and bunk with a toothless tweaker, as poignantly poetic as that imagery is.
What if Heath walked into a store, waltzed on back to the office then skipped his merry way out the door again with the safe containing $4,500? Would that be cool if he came back two years later with a loan from mommy?
And the way I understand it, Heath did not “give” an “additional” $500 to a charity. From reading a few pages back it looks like that was the money he stole from the “Happy Tree Battosai”(or whatever) charity.
I’ll give you that the two years was pulled straight out my butt, but the questionable meat products and tweaker have just been my experience from my couple random nights in the local Island County Jail when I was freshly “adult” and messing around got a touch out of hand. Haha.
Bunks are usually assigned, I think.
No. He raised money for a CHARITY. Then spent it on toys for himself.
If I remember correctly a lot of those yoyos went for crazy amounts of money, money that would not have come in if Heath hadn’t made people well aware all of it was going to a cancer foundation.
But you are missing a big ******* chunk in the story.
You forgot he gave the money back. What he did was beyond wrong! But he is PAYING FOR IT!
Excuse my language, but I have been in this situation before, and am still not forgiven for it. I stole 40 dollars from my friend once, and not only have I lost a best friend, but am not allowed at anyones house in my neighborhood. I used to live in the bahamas on a navy base, and cannot go back for 6 monthes. I am not only ahsamed of what I did, but I shun myself every single day. I feel so ridiculously passionate about this. I sent Heath a message about how I forgave him, and he told me how much it meant to him that someone is holding his hand through this pit of heck. It is obviously not over for him, and even his mother shunned him! You have 0 idea what is going through that kids mind right now. It is impulse, and I am a victim of it too. I am in NO WAY saying what he did was right AT ALL, but be the bigger man and learn how to forgive for christ sake.
Here is not the place to retell my story, but still. Heath had great intentions. He could have not given back anything, and just cut off all communication to us. He could have, and didn’t. OH, LOOKS LIKE HE HAS A SOUL, HUH? It hurts me to see such a great guys burn in flames for a mistake. I know, I am still burning. Even if my friend forgave me, I would still be embarrassed to show my face anywhere!
Anything and everything said after " Heath stole and gave back" should have been deleted and/or locked. Talking about how much we want Heath to rot in prison is not changing a thing. What I am saying doesn’t change a thing. I am done.
I guess that’s why he stole money right from the get go, huh?
My mom died last year from breast cancer, so I guess this incident struck a little close to home. Heath never ‘repaid’ anything. That makes it sound like he was given a loan. From what I can tell (and from what Heath won’t tell), he never had any intention of donating any money.
Yeah, I guess since the money did eventually reach the ACS, in the end it’s a win.
I don’t feel like jail is appropriate though. Our prisons are overcrowded enough as is, no sense in plugging them up further with non-violent offenders.
I’ve got a shred of hope left that Heath is man enough to have to deal with the horrible things he’s done and the knowledge of how many people he’s ticked off. Your our mind can be a prison, too, ya know.
