Punny
I hadnât considered this. Certainly something to ponder.
and despite the obsession with vibe. the folks producing wood yo-yos âturnâ them out, but really over in pretty short order. and while this market is small, theyâre not carrying on about vibe. i could only find wood mentioned once in this topic, but i believe itâs fair to say itâs just as relevant a way of play, with less hangups about vibe.
I enjoy throwing wooden fixies, vibe is never something that crosses my mind. To me, some vibe is part of the deal with an organic material. That said, personally, unless a yoyo is a wobbly mess, I just donât care about vibe. To me, it doesnât at all impact my enjoyment of my toys (wooden or otherwise)
I think I got overly obsessed with vibe at a point. Maybe I still am. To me it was some way of how precise the machining was. Idk.
Plus the whole BST thing when I started yoyoing , I quickly reconized that vibe sometimes made certain yoyos have a reduced price.
Than I was confused when I saw things like âmint with fingernail vibeâ
Me- what? How?
Before I sold anything on bst I tested for vibe in a lot of my yoyos. I got really OCD about it and it bothered me. Silly right?
I quickly jumped towards brands that consistently were selling me yoyos that felt as smooth as possible. Than I got a sleipnir and thought
âOk this is the snoothest yoyo I gotâ so really a lot of my âSMOOTHâ yoyos I got have SOME degree of vibe.
Idk how many hertz @fatguysnacks247 but its some lol.
Gosh this is long winded. I hate typing text walls cause I never read them.
Anyways⌠you guys brought lots of good points. Initially i thought this thread was rediculous but now Im learning to just have more fun and care a little less.
Granted though there is some degree of vibe that would bother me. If i could feel it significantly on the string or visually see it after i ran my thumbnail to center it, im sure that would bother me if i spent a lot on a yoyo. But I agree with what some guys say about the idea of vibe maybe limiting innovations. But maybe at the same time, taking vibe into consideration WHILE innovating could further our leaps in design and efficiency.
Idk though im not a machinist or design stuff. Im just a dude.
P.S you do not need to read this. ^^^^^
Its just my experience so far on the subject. I have only been around sense August 2019 in the yoyo community and just wanted to share my thoughts. You all rock!
and honestly, i check for vibe, because it bothers other people. iâll also ask, so i know the condition. do i like a smooth yoyo? i love a smooth yoyo! youâd have to be out of your mind not to. but, iâm also not going to split hairs if itâs something i really want, and iâll judge accordingly
I never check for vibe. Honestly I see no evidence that the obsession with vibe is hurting development or developers. Not judging by the number of developers and new releases.
Played a Butterfly( standard 3$plastic) for 3 weeks till I gave it to a kid last weekend. It was crooked AF. Itâs sides werenât applied to the axle evenly- it was plain to see. I played the hell out of it and it wobbled like a flat tiređ. The fun was in making it fly like a champ regardless of its " lucky fin".
Doesnât mean I donât demand more of higher prices pieces thoughđ.
I wonder if spreading the knowledge that a vibey yoyo is not a poorly manufactured yoyo would help? I think people mostly just donât want something that hasnât been made properly, and they feel that vibe is an indicator of that.
Agreed.
Spread the gospel.
Make art not excuses.
I throw pretty aggressively and as such itâs rare that * Iâm * not the source of the vibe anyway.
Vibe doesnât bother me. Wobble on the other hand is bad.
And yes, there is a noticeable difference between the two.
some of my most fun yoyos have a decent amount of vibe. do i wish they were smooth? yeah, but they help me appreciate my other throws that are smoother. Not satisfied with your yoyo that has 9.5/10 finger nail vibe? Try throw something with a lot a vibe for a week and come back to it
Preach! There are (probably) a lot of us who feel this same way!

Sometimes vibe will distract me from enjoying the yoyo. So Iâm more focused on vibe cancellation rather than just enjoying the feel of the yoyo or the tricks flow. With that said, Iâm the first to run and buy b grade cuz Iâm not prissy about vibe.
Itâs one thing when youâre expecting vibe like with a b grade. Itâs another when you buy a 75$ plus yo-yo with vibe problems while other companies sell 35-50 dollar yo-yos that are perfectly smooth. Itâs not about obsession, itâs that a standard has been established and when companies fail to meet that standard they are releasing a below-par product at this point.
