Unpopular Yoyo Opinions

Good point! It just bothers me to see someone working on their trapeze with a draupnir. Again, good point though.

What competition is about is not usually”soul”. It’s about skill and stage presence. To each their own.

I can certainly understand that, but I respectfully disagree. My first yo-yo was a YYF - Nightmare, which I bought from YoyoExpert by the way , and I used that to learn all of my tricks. I don’t see anything wrong with using an “expensive” yo-yo to learn. For me a yo-yo is a toy, and it’s meant to be enjoyed. Why should you start off with a $10 yo-yo if the $100 one is the one you really want? If you bought a Ferrari Enzo, would you have to do 218 mph to truly enjoy it? Yo-yos are built for much more than just competitions. They’re made for fun, aesthetic purposes, relaxation, and the list goes on. Some people just collect them, and that’s fine too. That being said, like any other toy, you should take care of it. I learned most of my tricks on the Nightmare, and it’s still in near mint condition.

I know where you’re coming from, though. I’m not trying to start a debate.

Yes, certain cars and motorcycles need to be pushed hard and driven at speed in order to be fully appreciated. But being real, most rare exotics are nothing more than investments that will never be fully appreciated

Well yeah, this is easy to demonstrate with basic statistics. Think of the most hardcore competition yoyo you can, and how many units it sells. Now estimate how many actual people who enter yo-yo competitions, much less win them, will be making those purchases?

Some cars are … driveable art

It takes social skills to have fixed axles do what you want.

Good string, you ought to try some.

I prefer a string that is not white.

People that prefer centering bearings over flat bearings are just bad at throwing straight.

The Markmont Classic is shortened to MMC not MC.

This.

Sorry, this is not an opinion, it’s factually incorrect. I’ve mentioned it several times before but from Mark himself, it is a single M. Go look at the Markmont Next and you will see “MN” etched on the yoyo. Not MMN
Edit: to add to my point, you even spelled Markmont correctly. A single capital M. He doesn’t spell it MarkMont

gif vs gif. The OC wasn’t supposed to be a G2 but it’s a G2 now. Everyone calling it the MMC makes it the MMC, that’s how language works. Perhaps it’s unfortunate but most people don’t know what you mean when you write MC but they know instantly when you write MMC.

I think you’re missing the point. The yoyo name is shortened to MC, that is a fact. A bunch of people being wrong in the same fashion doesn’t rewrite the history books. I’m talking fact vs opinion here, not abstract functions of the human language.

The name of the yoyo is the Markmont Classic. That is a fact. There is no official shortened name for the yoyo as far as I am aware. There is perhaps a convention in names in general that initials take the first letter of all names. But I don’t thinks that applies to yoyo names.

Furthermore MMC is more like a nickname, and therefore convention establishes the rule.

Jordan said it better than I did.

Lol did you look at the side of the Markmont Next like I mentioned in a previous post? There is a reason it has MN on the side of it. That reason is because that’s how Mark wanted it. It wasn’t an accident and obviously he didn’t poll web forums for popular opinions, but that was his yo-yo and his decision. When he was still intermittently visiting YYE, he’d get asked the same question every time. Is it MMN or MN, is it MMC or MC? The answer, from the guy who designed the yo-yo, was always a single M. There is quite literally nothing to debate. Most people weren’t around for the releases of his previous models and aren’t aware of how he named them, I get it, but he did name them
Edit: and for the record, I’m well aware the internet will always call it the MMC and say “nope, sorry Mark, you named your yoyo wrong” but I’m just sharing what I know
