Yoyoer and yoyo don’t have anywhere near as a good a ring as thrower or throw. Plus they’re 1 syllable longer, that’s just too much man.
You think I’m joking
I just think there’s a lack of great terminology to describe yo-yos and yoyoing. I agree terms based on yo-yo can be unwieldy, and the “throw” based vocab makes sense and is probably the best we can do for now. I can deal with calling yo-yos throws and have no problem with the term throwing, but thrower is just a little too much for me.
“I’m a thrower” just sounds kind of cringeworthy to me. Like I wish the yo-yo subreddit was yoyoers or throwing, throwers sounds like the term a team of shonen anime yo-yo heroes would use to refer to themselves.
Idk man, “I’m a yoyoer” sounds pretty cringy to me, and that’s for talking to both throwers and non throwers.
I think the moral of this story is yoyoing and throwing is just cringy in general
I can agree with that. I’m not one that’s easily embarrassed so it’s not s big deal, I just thought it was a fun topic for this thread.
Whenever I talk to people about yoyo, I just say I like to yoyo. Ive never once called myself a “yoyoer” or a “thrower”. I call professional yoyo players, “yoyo players”. Shortening it sounds cringy, I agree with Andy.
“I’m a yoyo player’ sounds cringy too though
There’s no getting out of this guys, yoyo is just cringy
Return top aficionado?
Ok now that’s a winner. We’ve figured it out bois
“Look, I’m a man in my thirty’s playing with children toys on the regular! What’s the problem?!”
I don’t see why we are worried about what we are calling ourselves when we all look like a bunch of dorks doing it anyway.
Exactly!
Just embrace the cringe
But I’m in my 20s
Don’t worry, it’s all the same when you get to your thirties.
Don’t talk about the 30s, I’m still getting over the fact that I’m not a teenager anymore
I would 100% bring back “yo” as a verb like they had going in the early 80’s. YO FOR IT!!!
Yoers forever.
If you’re talking to the man on the street, “thrower” could have many meanings, probably none of which have anything to do with yoyos. “Yoyoer” is also somewhat silly.
As @eternalmetal says, “I like to yoyo” is very descriptive, and leaves little to the imagination.
QED
How did you add the “return too aficionado” tag?
You will be in your 30s before you know it, and every old person is right in that time DOES go quicker the older you get.
Fight!!! But I use to be a hood rat(not slang lol)
Maybe that’s why the community so small cause instead of saying yo-yo we say throw…lol
Heheh…asa gay man in my forties playing with yo-yos all I need to do is add a pro as a backdrop and sprinkle some kids and I am sure some ignorant people would totally get the wrong idea instantly…unfortunately…at the end of the day yoyo, throw, yoyoers, throwers or whatever else you want to call it isn’t the part to be cringing at…it is societies view of everything and the way at our core we judge others by appearance or action or our need to label and name things how bout we just call it “having fun repititiously failing!!!”
