Trick/Combo w/ Every Throw

CLYW Glacier Express. This yoyo made me think I was really into undercuts and hard edges H shapes, but nah I just like this yoyo specifically. Feels like an oldschool tech players dream yoyo. It feels like a brick, it plays like a brick, but the size and shape make it really nice for weaving through tight formations. It’s got some flaws from its age though, the angle of the response bump on this yoyo is too high, so playing this demands better plane keeping than basically any option released after 2012-2013. Gap width is also pretty narrow so you need to get a pair of summer tires or silicone recess it. It’s an old yoyo but I personally really like this one.

I’m rocking with the Freehand NextGen again today. The first vid I did with it was just for a fun and a laugh so I thought I’d actually do a trick(s), so here’s a simple stall repeater thing I’ve been trying to get smooth and with consistent flow/cw action. (A simple missed bind at the end that drives me nuts, but whatever)

Yes my string length is a wee bit long for 5a, I usually have it right under my belly button but I threw on a CW quick this morning before work so I could make this vid on time :+1:t2:

dude this is a sick little trick that i’m going to work on for CW control, thanks for sharing <3

You’re very welcome! That’s exactly what I’m practicing right now, maintaining fluent motion with the CW and keeping control. Stalls are also my favorite 5a thing to do

Sage
It’s the beginner yoyo that I started with. I really liked learning the basics of yoyoing with it.

@nightshadow hey Robin

Do you want to join this thread? It’s just @mable and @LeftyThrower24 and me right now

I think this is a great idea! I would join in, but, for the same reason I have never posted a video on the forums, I don’t know of any way to insert a video other than through YouTube or Instagram, which I don’t have.
@mable @YoYoMa1 @LeftyThrower24 you guys seem to be doing it some other way. I’m curious as to how you guys are posting videos.

I’ve been using the imgur app on my phone, it’s free and way faster to use than youtube.

I use Imgur as well, like Mable said it’s free and way quicker/easier to use than YouTube. Plus you can keep your videos to yourself or “hidden” you don’t have to post them on the app for the world to see if you don’t want to, unlike other apps. Please join! Its a lot of fun to throw stuff in the collection you don’t anymore or haven’t in awhile

I tried this spot to film to mix it up a little, but it turned out bad and you can’t see everything very well so sorry about that, but this isn’t a real serious clip either lol. I’ve been working on a variation for “Min’s Sock” since I’m struggling on the last couple parts of the OG trick. When I can’t get something or am confused by the tut, I try and see if I can come up with my own stuff at whatever point of the trick I’m stuck at, helps me to keep going and not get frustrated with it. Here we see me calmly put the throw down and walk away to take a breather.

Yoyo used is the One Drop Thorn. Typical OD stuff here, smooth, quiet, quality. OD I think mentions in their description for the Thorn that at 64.6 grams it’s right in the sweet spot and I’d agree with that. It’s nimble and quick but powerful enough to get through combos and tech etc. It gives me older OD vibes to some degree which I like a lot, but it also has the modern amenities you look for in throws today. Good weight distribution, spins forever, all that jazz. I’m a huge fan of the Matador spikes and yes they’re absolutely sharp-pointed enough for pull-starts, grabs etc. I’m a fan of the shape and everything else as well, fits nice and feels right in my hand. Is it one of those “you need to buy this one NOW” OD’s? No, but I do think it will be one of those “that was an underrated and overlooked throw” in the future.

Very sloppy, this combo is way harder than it looks. Using a C3yoyodesign 2019 Krown. It’s light, it’s fast, it’s floaty, it’s super comfy in the hand, the blasted profile + polished cup aesthetic is killer, and it’s the signature of Shinya Kido. People always rave about the Sleipnir, but I’d much rather have four Krowns than one Sleipnir tbh. Also this wasn’t always a budget yoyo, when the Krown dropped in 2013 it was like 150 dollars. It’s a very premium design being sold at a budget price thanks to modern yoyo manufacturing shops and techniques. Using this today since the new 7075 Krown just dropped.

You ever thought about competing? Just from the clips you’ve posted on this thread I think everyone would agree you have more than enough to make a killer routine up. Idk I just think you’re a lot better than you think you are. Your “sloppy” is better than most’s “good”

I’d like to enter a competition next year, my skill level still isn’t where I want it to be, but I’m getting there. It’s just a time-based game at this point for me I think. I’m still relatively new to yoyo since I only started throwing last year, but I’ve learned a lot and have a solid trick foundation, I’m just lacking the smoothness and execution that comes purely from just having played more.

Competitions seem like a fun short term way to push myself and broaden my trickset even more. I’m not really interested in trying to win or doing them for that long, but I think they’re very interesting and entering some would be a fun way to keep improving.

Noice! Is that an OG One? Like weren’t the first couple releases a better overall shape design and everything? Maybe I’m thinking of another YYF plastic

Right? I think my total time seriously invested in yoyo is a year or more and I’m not even near that lmao

i started december 2020 and i’m nowhere near that lol

A year??? See this is the good competitive push I was talking about that I need personally. Y’all are so talented and I haven’t had that around me at any time to keep me going and learning more until now. But yeah I get that for sure, only you’ll know when you’re ready but one thing is for sure you are talented enough and have a great arsenal to start out!
