My timeline is hard cuz I “started” when I was 12-13 but really just knew basics and collected some throws that were way out of league etc lol. I stopped before college and now I’m actually learning every day etc for the first time in my life since early August I think, idk whatever my first post was on here was the day I started again hahaha
I need to start posting in here. Cool thread
Please do! The more the merrier. Would love to see the collection and some dope tricks
Let’s GOOO, please join
Sorry I don’t know
I’m definitely not talented at yoyoing, I just play a lot. I appreciate the kind words, but in reality I’m a really slow learner, and it’s actually really hard to get me motivated to learn. It takes effort for me to sit down with a tutorial. I’ve just been super dedicated to the grind because I need to be on the grind to achieve my goal.
If my progression encourages other people to throw more I’m happy, but I’d feel bad if anybody compared their progress/skillset to mine and felt bad about themselves. Everybody has their own perspective of what they want to do with a yoyo. I can respect @bheinz63 wanting to focus on repeating/flowier elements and getting into the zone with fixed axle tricks. They can shred way harder than I can on a fixie because we’ve just spent our time working towards different goals
I view yoyoing like any other artistic medium. I’ve got these ideas for tricks, sequences, elements, etc. in my head that I just can’t bring to life right now because I don’t have the technical skill yet to render them. I really value the concept of self expression in yoyo, but for me to be able to do that requires me being at a much higher technical level than I am now. So I gotta be on the 1A grind to be able to achieve what I want to do with a yoyo.
It’s all positive for me I promise! I personally need to see and be around people better/more progressed in order to keep that drive in wanting to learn more and get better. I love yoyo, I could do all the stuff I know everyday for the rest of time and be happy with it. But at the same time I’ve never been one to settle or accept “average” in myself, so when I picked up a throw again a few months ago I said I’m gonna push myself and actually learn a lot more. Rather than just collect and what have you. I don’t see myself ever wanting to compete or anything but like I said it’s just personal stuff and goals for me
No worries I’m pretty sure I have no idea what I’m talking about anyways
i appreciate this perspective and thank you for reminding me that while we may not all have the same progression in certain styles, that doesn’t reduce our own progress in the styles that we personally enjoy.
First day learning 3a! I’m actually surprised I can throw with my right hand as good as I can already lol.
Yo-yos used: Duncan FHNG & YYF Protostar. (the only two plastic throws I have that are somewhat similar lol) Protostar is a Protostar not much else to say, I think it was one of those unresponsive plastics to really break the barriers of design and an example of how good they can preform (as we saw Jensen win nationals with one). One of the best plastics in it’s day and has a spot in any collection imo. Might actually just try and find another used one in the BST to use to practice this stuff more.
I think I’m going to join in! Thanks to @mable and @LeftyThrower24 for helping me with the info on inserting videos.
My collection has about 50 yoyos, but about ten of them are cheap/broken and are completely unusable, I just keep them around for sentimental reasons. I also have a few duplicates, so I have 36 yoyos on my list. I have little faith that I will stick it out for 36 days, but we’ll see. Tomorrow will be my first day.
Here’s my collection (sorry for the poor quality photo)
Heck yeah welcome aboard! You definitely don’t have to throw everything. If anything just throw the ones you haven’t in a long time or aren’t in your usual rotation, that’s part of the main reason for the thread
Woooow, that’s so cool that you’re trying 3A!
The breakaway and the plastic whip with your non dominant hand was clean.
@piano_man19
Awesome and like Austin said, you don’t have to post a clip with every single yoyo. Just have fun.
Replay Pro
They have a white body with different colored caps. I love that look for 3A. But to be honest they don’t play that good but for the cheap price that’s ok.
And they glow in the dark
WHAT !!! man that’s crazy just the complexity of 3a scares me so much but that arm roll at the end was keep up the good work
Thanks
That inside-outside weave on the blue line mach five was super cool. Tyty for more 3A content.
I recorded a couple extra on some days so I could continue the daily post even when I’m busy, I hope that’s not cheating lol. This is one of my favorite GT sequences, I just think it looks nice.
Using a CLYW Otter. It feels more Luftverk than CLYW, but not in a bad way. I think fresh directions and ideas for old companies is good. Certainly feels like an evolution of the Orca still, so it’s a new direction rooted in a familiar legacy. The abrupt cut to change from the rim to response curve, and the extra wide gap just make it feel foreign in terms of CLYW releases. There’s zero float, it’s just rimweight and meant to do tricks well. This easily feels like the most modern CLYW, and I think that the younger more comp oriented crowd that dislikes CLYW would actually enjoy this yoyo a lot. Kinda funny in hindsight how kids today seem disenfranchised by the performance of CLYW yoyos, and it’s sorta viewed as a boomer/collector brand. But when you see the skill level of people on the CLYW team, it’s a nice reminder that a yoyo having the play feel you want is the most important aspect. A good player can work with the performance of any gear.
I gotta learn something else 3a today. It’s so hard but it’s so fun and cool looking. The replay pros hold up pretty well though! That’s not a simple trick I’m sure, Also I personally found that you really start to notice just how different two throws are when you use them for 3a lol
Since you can already do the 1.5 kink mount you can try learning the simple dismount I did in one of my trick videos here.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwen3YhmAKg&list=PLUsNCMNyWpzxnFJoT-xzoxVanfvggg7VX&index=9 (it’s at 1:10)
you can make it look like a magic trick
if you’re really brave learn this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbYLHLvUkhw&list=PLUsNCMNyWpzxnFJoT-xzoxVanfvggg7VX&index=17
Your CLYW stash >>> I miss my Gnarwhal, Bassalope and Avalanche all the time. Crazy to think people nowadays even choose something else over a CLYW. About 10ish years ago you’d get on and have to refresh the YYE page over and over on release day so you could even get one, whatever colorway was still available haha.
And maybe I’m off on this too but I think deep down not being machined in the USA by OD and co anymore drove certain people away. Which isn’t fair and really a shame because I have had the opportunity to throw an AC2 a couple months ago and it felt great and like an updated AC1. Quality was there, classic CLYW feel and play was there etc. If you had never told me they switched to machining over seas I’d never know. The whole “I don’t buy yo-yos made in China or other counties” seems very racist and xenophobic to me. I love OD and I do appreciate them being designed and machined all in house here, but that would never keep me from buying another brand made in China or any other country. All you’re doing is selling yourself short for some amazing throws and companies. Rant over. Also very awesome GT I love GTs lol
