Throws with the best texture?

:v:

Over time I have come to love the texture of some of my throws. What textures do you like? What am I missing out on?

Some examples:

  • Atmos Thunderberry, cloudberry Pomelo etc (they use this on all of their throws so far. I hear the Noah is a little different)

  • ILYY Candy Blast - I have a Falcon I absolutely love.

  • A/rt Triptych - it seems/looks like a regular finish as any of their throws but something about it is different.

  • Ridges/cuts on a throw - like OD Leg. Terrarium or prescription or Fire Devil ridge back or MFD Anti-pro.

  • Powder Coat - I don’t have one that isn’t vibey but still love them for feel.

  • I saw a Spyy on eBay a while ago said it had a Granite powder coated finish that looked super nice to fidget with. Pic:

I found I really like the grooves/ridges on the Legendary Terrarian.

Me too! I wish folks experimented more with textures like these.

Delrin has the best texture with that silky smooth feel.

ILYY candyblast for metals, machined delrin for plastics.

Also, I thought it was cool how some of the OG 3rd run Peaks used masking to make grainy and smooth on the same surface. With solid colors it gave a monochromatic two-tone effect. Are there any other examples of that?

Fair Trade Yoyos Project Y, and PV44

True that. If I just need something to fidget with I almost always grab one of my machined Delrin yoyos.

I also love ILYY’s soda blast that they used on the E1NS 2021. It makes for a very pretty matte finish and is quite pleasant to touch.

I used to have a bapzilla 2, viszilla, and blasted ywet that all had amazing feeling finishes. They ate strings like no other.

I really really like the MFD blast

I’ve got a cadence that has a matte purple ano job and the finish has a soft feel similar to my pomelo. It’s lovely

I’m a One Drop fanboy and I really like the OD pyramatte finish. It’s not the best for grinds, but its durable and looks and feels really nice. Also, I’m not sure about the other colors, but the black Basecamp Sherpa has the softest matte finish I’ve ever felt. I’d like to see more of that.

Anything that uses frosted polycarbonate. I love the look and I love the texture. These rims made the mod44 go from great to amazing for me. One day I’m hoping @Glenacius_K will turn more of this stuff because I know he made a Knick-Knack out of frosted polycarbonate before, and it almost seems like a better material for fixies than unresponsives. This setup for the mod44 only weighs 59g.

Nickel for shiny and smooth.

Hardcoat or whatever blast Atmos is using for matte and textured.

My favorites:

  1. General yo - the blast and finish on the old Hatricks and 5 star V2, it just felt insane. Grinding it on my arm or hand felt like an angel licking me.

  2. OG CLYW Yeti - Something about that feel of glass infused plastic, I’ve never felt it replicated

  3. ILYY Candyblast - It’s been mentioned above and deserves to be mentioned again. The glisten it puts off, the only way to describe it is like when Edward in Twilight steps into the sun, and the feel, don’t get me started.

  4. Antiyo Slip Matte -. Hope I’m saying that right, it’s just like Teflon. It’s so unique. In a blind test I’d be able to pick it out Everytime.

Love frosted polycarbonate, whatever RecRev used to do to their yoyos (candyblast? Not sure), and OD pyramatte finishes

Atmos +1

Don’t have my hands on Noah yet but I’m excited to see what they’ve done here.

Not sure if anyone remembers the Werrd Groovy Lady? (I think that’s the name) It had a really cool surface especially for the time. What happened to Werrd anyway?
