Things yoyoers intensely dislike

They’re trying to engage in conversation while at the same time trying to show some semblance of yo-yo knowledge that they’ve retained from days past. It might bring them some joy to see you do a simple trick that they know the name of.

They most likely don’t understand that the one trick they know the name of can damage your yo-yo, just like they don’t know how expensive your yo-yo is.

The problem is that no random person will have the slightest idea what you just did. I think it’s kinda like hearing a foreign language: you have no idea what’s being said, so it’s meaningless. When someone asks you to walk the dog, it’s like their saying one of the words they learned from said foreign language that they can actually understand. Understanding is pretty crucial for engagement.

I didn’t understand what Evan did in his 2018 US Nats freestyle, apart from understanding that he was yoyoing at a very high level, but that didn’t prevent me from having my mind blown and appreciating what I was seeing. I can honestly say that despite my ignorance of what I witnessed, in terms of the technical details, I would not have broken the ice with him by asking him to Walk the Dog. I just wouldn’t have. Clearly others would, but that doesn’t mean I understand their thinking.

I accept that I don’t get it, and I’m ready to move on.

I get these a lot. Honestly not many people ask me to walk the dog and if they do I just tell them how much the yo-yo cost.

:dog:Poor dog! Walking the dog :guide_dog: is my best trick! My wife asks, “Did you walk the dog?” I say “Every single day.” Then she gives me that side glance as she tries to discern if I :service_dog:walked the dog or if I “walked the dog.” Love it, just love it! :paw_prints:

Sounds like the beginning of some copypasta.

USPS blows so hard. Their tracking is terrible, and they shouldn’t be making you pay for 2-3 day mail if it’s going to take 4-6 days.

Yeah, the 2-3 day thing is a hopeful estimate and not a promise. They don’t guarantee 2-3 day delivery, and they constantly play games with the tracking info and delivery status. In any major city you will often find the USPS under-staffed and over-worked. Their carriers are rarely able to deliver all the parcels in their territory during a regular work day, and are often out very late at night trying to not get too far behind. However, due to contractual obligations with companies like Amazon, they will mark something as delivered even if it hasn’t actually been delivered. They lie to cover their butts, and then deliver the package a day or two later.

As long as we insist on free (or very inexpensive) shipping, particularly where the USPS is involved, this will continue to be a problem, and will most likely get worse, not better, as time goes by.

Because its the only trick they know.

It’s one of three tricks the general public knows about.

I have a similar reaction as you, I probably would have said something like “I have no idea what you just did, but it was very cool. How did you start learning this?” At which point Evan would have smiled and said “First trick I learned was walk the dog” and showed it…

I do think asking for walk the dog is a way that people try to engage. I usually have a beater with me so I can honor the walk the dog request. Sometimes that beater is a well sparked Ricochet, you can’t imagine the utter surprise when the sparks fly from the dog

Man, I sent a month ago some tops to a man in the USA(he received them some weeks ago) and it still says “in transit” on the tracking page. Don’t rely on them haha. It was also expected to be delivered one week before it actually came

Yeah I’m pretty pissed at this point. I’m probably not getting them til Monday now. How does 2-3 days turn into a week?

I’m not sure what’s worse, a yoyo that seems stuck in “In Transit” limbo, or a yoyo that is marked as delivered even though it is not in one’s possession.

I’m currently dealing with the latter situation; this time it’s a TiHawk that would be very difficult to replace (being a blue one). This is familiar territory around here (Los Angeles), but in nearly all previous cases like this I was dealing with an item that was pretty easily replaceable, so it was mostly just really annoying rather than teeth-grindingly infuriating.

Definitely the latter- once an item is marked as “delivered” the usps usually calls it quits on anything search related for the package

All of these issues can be resolved if you ask the seller to pay an extra $2-$3 for SIGNATURE CONFIRMATION

Aka no more packages being delivered and left outside to be stolen/lazy mailmen need to either get a signature from the receiver or leave a “pink slip” so YOU can pick it up at your local PO

Yes, and I feel really stupid for not doing that. Ugh.

On mine it said “expected to come by Monday” but arrived the next week. Usually Local Postal services are bad xD

Here in Spain on all certificated packages that is included( sometimes not a signature, but a document that proves that the person receiving it is right)

Definitely one that is “delivered”. I’ve never had it happen with a yoyo, but I’ve had it happen with other packages three times. I have a camera aimed at my front door, in each case no package was dropped at my door on the claimed delivery day. If that happened with a TiHawk it would drive me absolute insane!!

Best of luck.

This is exactly right.
