The problem with buying too many yoyos…

I know, I know…we can never have too many yoyos. It’s an obsession! My problem is this: A lot of the time I forget what yoyo I even got in the mail last week because I an throwing the yoyo that just came in the mail and then that yoyo gets put aside because a new yoyo just came and then I am watching tracking on another yoyo coming. To sum it up: I never get to “know” a new yoyo because another one just came. Sometimes, for me, it takes awhile to get to understand a yoyo and get a feel for it and I just need to slow down on yoyo purchases so I can better appreciate what I already have!

You’ve got the “Thrill.” That magical feeling of hunting down something new, the anticipation of it coming in, then the culmination of everything when it arrives!

After that. Meh.

Not all the time but I hear ya! Even after getting a new yoyo I end up putting my Top Deck in my pocket for the day which makes me think: do I already own my Ultimate Yoyo, so why purchase more?

I don’t really buy too many yo-yos, maybe one or two each year?

But I totally hear ya on the Top Deck, lol. I love the feel of that thing! I just don’t like the shape too much, I wish it was more organic. But I’m sure many would disagree there. :joy:

The Top Deck is one of “those” yo-yos. It just is. It has a real magic to it. It’s one of the only 4 monos that I hold on to.

if it makes you feel better you’re balancing the yoyo universe. I’m the exact opposite. it took me a dozen yoyos to find the one that brings me absolute unmatched joy and i haven’t looked at buying anything since. i want to support some of these amazing companies, but i can’t bring myself to buy a bunch of yoyos i know i won’t play anywhere near the one

so really you’re just picking up my slack. keep up the good work yo!:call_me_hand:

I regret not jumping on the TD @Yoyomikie had polished up. Looked sick and he had it at a great price

FWIW, I may only throw a new yo-yo for a minute before I go back to whatever I was already enjoying at the time. It may be weeks, months, even longer after something arrives that I spend real time with it. I must have bought my Popstar over 10 years ago and I enjoy it way more now than at the time.

Other times, a new yo-yo may immediately eclipse everything else – for the moment.

Either I will get around to enjoying all of the yo-yos that I buy, or I will run out of time. Either way, it’s not something that I worry about.

Right there with ya. Yoyo tickles a lot of parts of my brain. Collecting, having something to look forward to, the gear aspect of the different shapes and sizes and feels, and of course actually playing with them and getting lost in another universe separate from all the garbage of the world. It also scratches that addict itch I have and there are much worse things to be blowing your money on than yoyos.

It’s hard for me to play with just one for an hour, I’ll always end up switching out for another one, playing them back to back to see if I truly enjoy one more. It helps decide what I’ll keep and what I’ll be comfortable giving away or selling. If I lost all my yoyos but one, there are a handful I wouldn’t mind being that one, though.

You may try opening a BST looking for a Top Deck. You may be surprised that someone may reach out with a great price on one. I’m not saying it’s not worth the new purchase price but if you can get one for less that would be so much better.

I started out in the premium yo-yo world thinking that I should seek that one perfect premium yo-yo which checked all the boxes.

With time, I realized that I get in moods so I need a variety of throws varying in weight, shape, performance. With each purchase, I first ask - What niche will this throw fill?

I declared my collection complete last July. Holding fast to that declaration with only purchases being gifts and a back-up double. Has worked for me.

I went through that phase, was going a bit crazy about 10 years ago. I couldn’t decide what I wanted to throw that day. Since, I’ve slowed down as I seek either something very unique (which is hard to come by these days) or seeking older stuff for nostalgia sake.
