The "eh" thread.

ya my axle gave out toady…tut tut… where can i order a new one? sucks, only played with it for 2 days!

Did it break in half or something?

yes…put it back together from imperial config…must have snugged it just a bit to much…threw it and it came apart, as in axle in half. so chances are it was my fault. No biggie, I just took the opportunity to stain it…looks awesome a little darker

Also…they are for sale under the TMBR axle repair kit…theres a drop down with a couple options. in case anyone was wondering

I always have a couple available since I have broken them in the past and get withdrawals.

ya im definitely missing it. but i ordered 2 more, they should be here this week

Good move, I always have one or two, as I said, in a drawer… what happened to you has happened twice to me, but I abuse my TMBRs because I keep them in my pocket all day and throw every moment I can.

Not had this happen quite yet. Though I try a remove her from my pocket when I go to sit down. I think that’s what stresses the wood the most, is the tightness created in a pocket when sitting. Unless you’re throwing maniacally hard.

i think it happened with the tightening and being in my jacket pocket the last two days…

Although, i do tend to go all hulk sometimes… on saturday night my BVM2 snagged about 2 feet out right after a super hard throw…absolutley pumpled my cheek…probably needed stiches but a few butterfly bandages worked great…face is still sore and a nice bruise too

Yeah, when I take mine apart to reconfigure I’m overly careful. You’d think I was handling porcelain when I’m putting it back together.

I’m like that with every yoyo.

Me too. I admit I’ve only taken the axle out of my Eh to look at it. I still haven’t used a coin to take off the hubs (would that be the right term?). I just wanted to see the axle and admire Colin’s work.

But thank you guys for discussing this. I won’t put my Eh in my pocket because I don’t want to put any undue pressure on that axle.

Speaking of taking apart the eh, does anyone have a trick for getting the center axle out? It always stays in one side when taken apart, I can choose which side by holding down the cap while unscrewing, but I can’t get the center part out by itself. Seems the friction of the wood screw on the “side the axle stayed in” keeps everything tight. I think the full wood setup of the tmbrs is great, but I also see why metal became the choice material for things with threads.

Just loosen the out side cap a little and the axle will come out easy.

The side cap won’t budge on the “axle side,” seems to be held in by friction.

This happens to me too, I’ve been experimenting with different gap settings. This will make you shriek with horror but I have actually wrapped a cloth around the axle and used channel locks very delicately to unscrew the main axle. I tried to remove the cap to loosen it but it was to the point of breaking. I have done this a few times now and all is still well with my Eh.

greasy! i like it. i have a little grippy pad somewhere for opening jars im going to try.

the pliers didnt flatspot the threads at all?

When you tighten, go finger tight, not too tight to avoid axle issues.

I guess I should be more careful with my throws, mine take a beating… I play a lot with them and keep them in my pocket for easy access.

I haven’t had any issues like this this far. I just grab the threads of the axle between forefinger and thumb and twist. A dime in the side caps works like a charm. I’ll do some experimenting to see if I can replicate this issue and find a fix for it.

Don’t, I damaged an axle like that.

agreed! dont mess with it unless you have some backup parts, youll find yourself holding your pieces of eh and looking out the window waiting for usps.

and ive only hand tightened mine so far, caps included. i did try to unscrew the cap with a dime but definitely didnt wrench on it, wasnt worth it just to compare the maple axle to a walnut one.
