The Creed of the Reputable Modder

While driving my work truck around, I often turn off the radio to think. I came up with this idea today, and would like to know what you guys think! Feel free to add to the thread as you see fit!

The Creed of the Reputable Modder:

If someone hires you to do a mod, do it. Return in a timely manner

If you’re asked to do a certain mod, and you think it would be better another way…do what you were hired to do. If you feel that strongly about it, contact your client with your ideas. If they don’t want to change the mod, don’t ridicule them for it.

NEVER badmouth a fellow modder publicly. If the fellow modder does something you don’t really approve of, PM him. Think before you do this. Think of all the positives, and the negatives that can come about from “calling him out” You may just make a fool out of yourself!

ALWAYS give credit where credit is due. Simply put…don’t take credit for someone else’s creation. i.e. Don’t say you “invented” the silicone recess…That’s Takeshi’s idea if I’m not mistaken!

Share secrets with REPUTABLE modders!
We’re not in a competition. Remember why we do what we do…for the greater good of our sport. If you feel that strongly that you have a method of doing something that is that great, I’d say, its OK to keep it to yourself. i.e. Organic paintjobs by YoEric. If by chance you figure out how a fellow modder does a “top secret” mod, keep it to yourself. I’d say it’s OK to do it yourself, just don’t announce to the world how its done! Probably a good idea to PM the other guy and let him know you’ve got the secret.

KEEP SECRETS SECRET! If a fellow modder gives you information on how to do something that you KNOW isn’t public knowledge…do your part to keep it that way.

Help out your fellow modders whenever you can. Know where to get a GREAT deal on a tool, supplies, or whatever? Share the wealth!

When you get a review, thank the writer! Even if you don’t agree with everything that has been said. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. If it’s horrible, perhaps you should look at what you’re doing, and how you’re doing it. Keep in mind, it could be right on the money!

Don’t “Call Out” Other Modders:
I learned this one the hard way. Unless you’re Shinobu, you’re not a mod god. We all do damn good work. If your work is that great, let it speak for itself. There’s no need to put others work down just to make your own look better. If you’re a new modder, or even new on the forums, pay extra attention to this ever so important rule! I wish I did when I was new on the forums!

Help Out Kids/Newbies/Less Fortunate: Belong to a club? Are there people there who don’t have all the “cool” new yo-yos? Offer to mod a few for them! Free. Keep in mind, this rule just doesn’t apply to kids, or even a club. Do you part to promote our sport. Whats the worst that can happen? You lose a few minutes of your time? Think about the flipside of the coin! What if that kid, or whomever goes onto win worlds! All because you gave him the tools to do it! Think about it!

Don’t badmouth companies: They’re not in business to make you happy. If you don’t like their products…don’t use them. Better yet…start your own company!
