It’s hard. I think the easiest trick to learn this ability on is Angel Wings, BUT if you suck at this skill you will ding up your yoyo when practicing Angel Wings. If you have a soft counterweight like a Monkey ball that would be good for practicing tricks like that.

Otherwise, the trick that really helped me learn how to do this was 5A Trapeze and His Brother. Took me about 10 hours to master. Super frustrating. But once I had that, 5A Double or Nothing wasn’t that hard, and once I had that, 5A Hand and a Half Mount wasn’t that hard, etc.

Some of Jake’s tricks are relatively difficult…if you haven’t already I’d try to learn most of the Level 1 and Level 2 tricks in Miggy’s tutorials before trying the ones in this thread as they tend to be easier and will teach you basics like moving the yoyo and counterweight in opposite directions.

I’ve been trying to follow the 5A brother tutorial for a while, but it hasn’t clicked yet. I’m sure if I work on it a little harder though I can get it. Just gotta keep trying.

The process I took was basically this:

First, focus on the reverse angel wings like motion from the trapeze mount.
Second, get consistent at catching the counterweight and don’t worry too much about missing the yo-yo.
Third, try to intercept the yo-yo with your index finger, but don’t worry if it hits the wrong string.
Fourth, practice until it’s consistent.

Miggy makes the trick look so easy, and it took me so long to learn that I thought I was stupid or something. But a lot of 5A tricks are like that–they look easy but can be extremely difficult. Similar to 4A tricks. On the other hand I think 1A tricks look hard but usually aren’t–mostly just a lot of steps to remember but not much requiring extraordinary dexterity.

Anyway keep practicing it. It’ll click eventually.

I was 3d printing a counterweight at school. It wasn’t until it was nearly done I realised I’d accidentally made it hollow.
