This is how to properly compare Draupnir and Hummingbird.

I get it. I have no clue how scoring works and i dont want to pretend like I do. But as a spectator seeing these scores compared to their freestyles it feels like some players got completely jipped while others that made it probably shouldnt have made it.

The ones that were more sloppy but still made it(Connor and Luke come to mind but I know there were others) were contenders for top 5 or 10 if they went clean, they had very high scoring styles.

And again if you look at overall score and technical eval scores(TE, clicks), the scores were very close to each other. The difference between 3rd and 11th was less than 5 points

I was thinking of clicking myself to see how my scores would stack up to the actual ones but that was just too many :joy:

lol hasn’t that always been the case ever? You really can’t make everyone happy :\

It’s a panel of judges who score these things. Results are naturally going to be somewhat unpredictable.

Speaking of yoyos used, I confess that I continue to be astonished by the fact that nobody competes with a Top Deck. That thing is a performance beast! If Gentry can win Nats with a Shutter, then anyone in the top 20 Worlds semi-final standings could surely podium with a Top Deck.

It’s because the only active OD sponsored competition player is Ethan Cheung and he has his own signature.

Also, I hope Takaki Clark gets sponsored by OD soon, poor mans been repping them for so long :joy:

I keep forgetting that nobody competes at this level without being sponsored, and when you’re sponsored you’re expected to only use that company’s yoyos.

Yeah not even finals but almost every 1a semi finalist is sponsored

I mean one of the reasons people get sponsored is to help sell that companies yo-yos, so of course they’ll want their players to use their products.

I think Gentry winning with a Replay is one of the biggest things he could have done for YYF from a marketing point of view. Not only does it help sell Replays but it puts the idea into people’s heads that if that’s what a YYF plastic can do imagine how good their high end stuff must be.

Also having a signature yo-yo in particular is probably really beneficial when you’re competing and need something that fits your exact needs. It just has the added benefit of the yo-yo being associated with a particular yoyoer that can help move units if the yo-yoer is popular and/or places high.

What’s this?

Chinese company, a few of their models sold on YYE years back. They’re still making yoyos but they don’t really market to the American audience nowadays

China’s top player Chen Yang is sponsored by them.
