The original eH had the brass inserts set from the inner gap. The first production from TMBR used his dado rectangular caps across the outside into which the threads were set

There you go! Brass onserts from the inner gap. I wonder why the design was changed.
I think Colin had already started experimenting w dado inlays and it seemed like an easy way to make a bunch of them consistently. Steve had said that his method with the inner insets were really tough to get smooth. Dunno but those first runs Colin did played a LOT like the original eH.
