String that fights tension!

what is a good string that keeps its tension well?

Nylon strings fights tensions a lot better than polyester. However certain bulk nylon strings tend to have a more pronounced/rough texture. Except for Aeretic strings, which are remarkably smooth and lasts significantly longer than bulk poly/nylon strings. I haven’t tried the Zipline strings, but they do have a nylon/polyester blend.

Zipline Prestige holds tension really well and is thick, it’s very similar to Airetic Solid Standards without being as nylon slippery.

Most boutiques hold tension better and last longer, though they cost more. If you like poly, YYSL has a good sample pack for sale here. For nylon, I really like Aeretic and from Zipline, I like Skylines, Executive Lites, and Prestige - they each have a very unique feel. There are many boutique brands that will hold tension better, these are just what I’ve tried.

A single ply string… no tension to be had.

I like this exact set as well  for yysl I like plutonium best. But definitely try some of the nylons or blends. They blew my mind

Someone has to mention @Markmont strings. Especially blue-eyed white dragon. I’ve never played with something that holds tension anywhere close to better than this string. And it is the whippiest. Sochi is my go to bulk string. Yoyoexpert has a ton of Markmont string options, and if they don’t have it, you can go to the man himself. He’ll even take custom orders.

most boutique strings, ive heard stringlab, zipline, airetic, and markmont are up there for lon lasting, and holding their tension

P.S. Nylon doesnt hold its tension well on their own, so id recomend buying a string that comes with less than half nylon

Aaayyyeeee much respect good sir.

Markmont. Formulas

Blue Eyed White Dragon
Draken
Cumulus Foam

All the formulas hold tension well, but these ones in particular I would try first. Make sure to read the descriptions to see which one suits you best:

Some enterprising fellows use angler swivels to help with tension, though I’ve really only ever seen it used with 5A.

i dont think any 1a players use that, most just do a sidewinder

yeah thats a counterweight thing. some of the more fancy ones have bearings in them so you don’t need an angler swivel.
