String Tension-Unresponive

I have had Shutter unresponsive yoyo for about 3 weeks now. I experimented with a few strings and found Kittly XL to provide the best binds. I am reasonably proficient with the front and side mount binds and can bind from the Plastic Whip when I am able to complete the trick, about 1 out of 5 or 6 attempts. I can also bind from the trapeze by moving to an under mount. I seem to have more string tension with the Shutter than I do with my Shooting Star responsive yoyo. I’ms still working on being able to fix the string tension using some of the methods in the online videos. Usually I just have to let the string hang free and let it untwist. Is it common to have more string tension with an unresponsive yoyo compared to a responsive yoyo when doing some of the same tricks? I’m a complete Noob so I know it will take some time but the string tension can really be irritating at times.

Keeping your tension (actually torsion but everyone calls it string tension) as neutral as possible is usually what you want for unresponsive. I adjust mine a lot and it kind of becomes second nature. I usually do frontstyle sidewinders (I think??) I just bounce it up and pull the string to one side and the spinning of the yoyo grabs it and fixes my string torsion. If I have a dead yoyo I will just slap the yoyo to spin it sideways till the string untwists.

Not much of a responsive player but I think your string torsion can vary a lot more, like some tricks/yoyos like a tighter torsion than pure neutral. I would just say it’s another thing to tweak as far as response with responsives.

what nathan said. also it will get better as you improve as mistakes can easily add torsion. i also use the bind/sidewinder method, but the first and i still think easiest method when you’re learning is this one

As far as why the shutter would do this more than your responsive could have more to do with the string than the yoyo. While the binds might be stronger with xl there will also be more contact with the string especially while you are learning and the yoyo may tilt more at this point. There will always be string torsion and you will get really good getting rid of it eventually but for experimentation sake try a normal or thin string and see if that helps
