String Makers Discussion

Did the plan work out?

I have always run G-String as a cost-recovery project.
My chosen thread materials cost 2-6x what yours do…guaranteed.

I do not make string for margin, I make it for fun.

I will take that as a yes

I just made a great fishing line polyester blend. Way more poly than fishing line though. It is ridiculous. Still in the works though.

How well does it hold tension? Fishing line isn’t really made to be twisted AT ALL! Thats why fisherman will spend tons of money and time doing everything they can to keep the twists out- it doesn’t handle well twisted. Knots, knots, and more knots

not two many knots but I believe if I try a a lower test it will be better. but it does work.

I made that too but I thought that It was too weird.

Try bonded nylon instead of fishing line

Bonded nylon would work, but if you are set on using fishing line, buy some 2lb test monofilament. You want Trilene XL, not XT. Or, if you want something really cool get some Fireline in 6lb test (but it is like 4 times the price). Get it in neon green. If you dont like it I will always buy it from you, as that is all I use for spring walleye fishing

we(beyond42 strings) used the 2lb line this time…much better than the v.1. i got the actual string maker to make it looser and i think we hand wound it( with the yoyo), im not sure…anyway its great! it’s still dificult to perform hoppy triks like kwijibo but its much less stiff than the first one he made

definetly a novelty string that probably will never enter the hands of anyone else other than him

How do you even make string by yourself???

Anyone else use Size 10 chrochet thread??

Waitasec… so you take two size 10 crochet threads, tension them so that they twist together, and voila, you’re done?

does it work well? How do you form the loop that goes around the axle?

Check out a couple of these videos.

The crochet thread is already made out of 3 fairly thick strings … I use two of them so I got 6 strings total… the one above I went light on the tension .  It ends up juuust about the thickness of your standard cotton string.

Ah, so you’re separating them and then doing it like any other string-making. Got it! I just thought you were using two intact pre-twisted crochet threads together (each colour already twisted, and then both then twisted together) and couldn’t figure out how a loop would work.

How do they play?

it is what you think exactly … I am keeping the crochet thread in tact…

I have tried untwisting it though… but it adds a step… and im lazy so… I haven’t for a while.

they play okay im still playing around with how much tension to use… PM me your address i’ll stuff a few in an envelope and snail mail it to you. I’ll send a couple of different tension and you can tell me.

i’ll take some pictures and make a tutorial with the crochet thread and what I do.

EDIT: the candy cane one is meh… I think it was too little tension. And I made it kind of short sooo… I shall try again.

I heard you where new to YoYoing •_•.

I am… when I said “a while”… meant… a few weeks :stuck_out_tongue:

and I am a DIY’er at heart… why buy 10 strings for 5.00 when I can make… heck a crapton more than 10 for 5 bucks.

I mean, you have already modded Butterfly and you can make string. I can’t even make string and I have been YoYoing 2 years.

Ive been messing with super thick cotton thread, so far so good
