If I remember correctly, if you twist the string looser, it will retain tension better than a tightly twisted one, although the latter is better for slacks and whips. Examples of manufacturer that produces high quality threads are Coats and Clarks and Guttermann.
What are the advantages between thick and thin string?
Personally, I think it is a matter of preferences but thick string is more likely to snag than thin string, but thick string is more comfortable to the finger than thin string. If the string is too thin, you may not be able to get tight binds too.
Are there any advantages with whips or string tension?
As of my current knowledge, it does not have any advantages for whips or string tension. Those two aspects are more dependent on material choices.
Would someone mind PMing me about a nice automated (or semi automate setup I’m looking to start building my own strings and honestly could use some help as he Internet is lacking or my google wear big skills “suck”).
There are se reasons behind this 1. There is only one company that I’ve run into willing to do custom strings and do a great job, but afford those strings (they are reasonably prices, but still my wife freaked out When she saw what I was paying per pack) and I’d like to mess around with a few materials that really seem like worthy candidates for strings and I have an idea for a string that goes against the grain and twist lol.
Granted I’m sure these ideas have been tried but I’m wiling to see if I can put my spin on it.
I have some restraints for a jig but these can be dealt with fairly easily I’m sure.
I’ve tried to be thorough and diligent in my google searches before coming here, but those had left lots to be desired.
Thanks for any help and hopefully getting me popping my string collars hehe . I look forward to getting a system and jig in place to begin.
PM’d! Good luck!
Rayon"s great, but nothing like silk. I was actually one of the first people to experiment making yoyo string with Rayon(many years ago.). My one silk string is around 10 years old, and still plays good(well for me anyway). I know it’s expensive, otherwise I’d have more than one string!!LOL I’m pretty cheap. I was just curios if anyone else here had actually tried it.
Seen several string making questions lately so bump…
If you read through this thread you will find all you need to start making your own quality yoyo string!
What happened to the boutique Bundle?
I want to try silk, but it is definitely so expensive, but the price I found was $35 for 5000 yards, so it’s not really that much. Maybe later on down the road, I’ll try some out, and if it is groundbreaking, I may want to let you guys know
