Since getting back into the hobby and finding the string I have is no longer made I’m hunting for new string. The string I have is great because it lasts a long time and is dimensionally stable. Virtually no stretch so it doesn’t loose thickness but I’m down to about 10.
What I’ve tried so far either wears out after a couple hours of play or has a lot of stretch so binds become less reliable. I’ve come to the conclusion that most string reviews are subjective and not much help.
I have some YYF type 6 poly that’s decent but won’t work for my higher end throws with wider gaps than my Duncan roadrunner and barracuda. My cage free is better but after a bit of play it fuzzes up pretty bad or loses about 15% of its thickness due to stretch and gets relegated to my responsive throws that like thin string.
I’m looking for suggestions on string to try for yo-yos with about a 4.5 mm gap. My throws in rotation right now are general yo majesty, general yo legato 2, offset Xenon and offset outlier+.
Be great to have actual specs on string and not just generic normal, thick extra thick descriptions.
Some company make very very fat
literally can use one string for years without it fraying at all
no bounce when break in (literally make my finger cause a SNAP noise there is so little bounce)
I have champion pro player friend that used one nylon string for 4 years until response pad break through string at bottom from time wear
If you want thick poly Sochi XL is 2x thicker than kitty it feel to me. Very thick. Especially orange and pink.
That’s the question of the year. The place I got it is no longer around and the main brands the shop sold was Duncan, Yomega and Tom Kuhn. Not string by any of them.
The closest I can find is the “Smoothie edition” string from zipline which is also not available anymore.
Zipline does have a Smoothie V2. I haven’t personally tried it, but it might be worth looking at.
Otherwise, I’d probably go with Splizacular’s recommendation of Exec Lite. ZS.Air is a great string imo, and uses the “Smoothie twist method” (Polyesque does as well). The problem with it and most nylon & nylon-blends for you is that they typically will have a good bit of bounce. Exec Lites don’t. They’re very smooth on the finger, but play mostly like a polyester string on the fatter (but not crazy thick) side. Durability is noticeably better than pure poly, though.
