Spintastic refurbishing

Hi all. I got a bunch of spintastic technic, terminator, tiger shark and mantaray as donations for DMV throw. I’ve gone throw and broke them all down to clean them up and get them all into top condition for YoYo club.

Most I have what I need but there are a few bits I’m missing.

-Anyone have any ideas where I can find or what I can get to make weight rings for these?
-Light up kits any ideas on where I can get spares or equivalents? I’m not above DIY if needed.
-Pogs I imagine finding them is gonn be tough but what’s a good substitute?

These were all donated by a lovely club member and I just want to get them all in tip top shape.

How many caps and wooden sleeves do you need?

YYS sells LED replacements. You can see if they will fit. On the rings what if you just 3d printed them? They would be a little thicker to achieve the same weight but would probably work.

Yeah that’s my backup plan but figured I would ask around as these have been around and used for some time and there might be some tricks the more experienced crowd has under their belts.

Honestly caps I’m missing 3 and only missing two wood sleeves and missing 3 weight rings. Not the end of the world I can Jerry rig something but trying to see what my options are before I get too silly with this.

Hi, sorry, I can’t add anything of value here but I like those containers you use for your bearings. Where did you get those? Right now, I just keep mine in old medicine bottles but I like the looks of what you have much better.

I can help with the caps. I might have enough wood sleeves. I’ll let you know when I get home.

So the smaller glass tubes are from Hollywood modern YoYo but you could buy similar on the rainforest site to be honest. The larger plastic tube was used for glitter in my kids crafts table and I borrowed it after we decided glitter is terrible… but I’ve seen similar plastic containers at dollar tree or should I say 1.25 tree…

Haha, thanks. And I just came to the same conclusion regarding glitter, my daughter is huge on making slime and she put WAY too much glitter in this last batch of slime (as well as food coloring), now I’m finding glitter everywhere because of that slime glitter bomb. I threw most of our glitter stash away.

@Veedo

I could definitely use which ever 3 caps your willing to part with and the two sleeves if your willing to let them go. Let me know how much you want for them. We can take this to a DM.

That will make the remaining ones whole and look and play similar to the rest.

I’m hoping by January we will have a jump in children and newcomers showing up as the library will be advertising our club in its newsletter and I’ve reached out to a few local homeschool groups and cub /boy scout troops to let them know about the club. Once I have these all setup I’ll put them in a case and they will be part of the beginner loaner throws we have at club (and if someone takes keen interest give away yo-yos) this is ontop of adding yo-yos to the library collection for checkout when the clubs not meeting.

Weight rings: fat o-rings of a size to fit snugly as used in Dif-E-Yo yoyos, Or rings made from #10 solid wire solder work well

Oh my goodness seeing that tigershark holo really takes me back

I think I have a par or two of those wire weight rings from a Tigershark. I’ll have to check.

If I remember correctly, the manta rays didn’t have the weight rings, if any of that helps.

I have two of them and they both have the metal weight rings and fat o-rings. One is from Spintastics and the other from Dazzling Dave. Just opened them up to check.
My tiger shark is the same.

Hmm, well I’ve been wrong before, I thought there might have been one along the way back in the day :man_shrugging:

Maybe earlier versions didn’t have them. Mine are all 1998 and later.

Further Spintastics history:
My SST Revolver and the Maelstrom came with metal rings and o-rings as well. The Eclipse came with those and the additional brass ring in the cap for a full load at 84 grams. All of them used the same basic shell. The difference was mainly in the cap cosmetics with the Revolver and Maelstrom having a kind of puffy cap as opposed to the earlier pog style caps. The Eclipse had a solid plastic cap. The art on the original release was by Johnny DelValle.

The Maelstrom also came with a concave sleeve on the bearing.

A lot of the Buzz-on yoyos used the same shell from Spintastics.
