Increased width in many competition driven yoyos is a direct reflection of what is more successful for the tricks that today’s competitors need to perform.
More compact isn’t what any of them want for performance.

OK I’ll take your word for it
Just played a TP Mustang this weekend. It’s “normal” in width, perhaps even kinda narrow as compared to something like the Cadence or Bliss. It just fits Takeshi’s style though with the deliberate tech movements and unparalleled flow. He has no need for overly wide, yet is constantly at the top of the competitive heap. Obviously we’re talking about a legend here and mere mortals may improve their consistency on some tricks with wider YoYos, but still… wide doesn’t always mean great for competition.
PS. Please don’t hate me…just keepin in real😆

Of course not. It just isn’t a coincidence that many comp-geared models across the board have kinda incrementally crept up and up in width to the point 44mm is no longer really considered “wide” like it was back when the Shutter released.
That’s all. It’s just sort of a “the state of tricks has caused this” kinda thing. It’s no overarching statement like that.
I hear ya! No doubt these high flyin banger combos your SF boys can do demand a wider yoyo for any great consistency. Me personally, my favorite SF is the SF! Just feels right…plus to get those fingerspins to center is so rewarding!
im working on 2.0 hook
Thanks for the help everyone! I will be getting an SK! But like always, I feel like getting another throw also. Leaning towards getting the puff adder to go along with it.
