I am trying to learn the sidewinder from the front mount with a unresponsive yoyo in order to adjust string tension. I can bind from this position either by pinching with my non-throw hand and pulling up with my throw hand or by keeping my throw hand steady and lowering my non-throw hand until the yoyo binds.
What is the best way to swing the yoyo to the side and which method of binding is the best way to perform a sidewinder. So far I can do a sidewinder about 1 out of 20 times. I’ve watched a couple of videos but can’t seem to grasp the correct technique.
I know this can also be done from a trapeze and under mount but I would like to learn it from the front mount first.

i swing it and set the bind (change hand height) kinda at the same time i think. also play around with the string proportions as that will affect it to a degree as well but that will also depend on how your response is set just remember a sidewinder happens not by pulling the yoyo toward you so much as popping it up to the same height as your hand. that pulls the string into the spin of the yoyo and starts it twirling around. i recorded a vid with some slomo if it helps at all. feel free to keep asking questions if something remains unclear and if you want record a clip and either post it or dm and i and/or others will help you get there. you can do it!
