Spikes are already borderline for me.

Basically, I can pull start with Spike SEs, but it requires a much more delicate touch than many other spike yo-yos.

They just aren’t sharp enough to get a secure grip (for me). I think it is both the sharpness of the point and the angle of the shape itself. This hurts the power I can get from pull-starts (and consistency of matador tricks in general).

So, between the two, Spikes are the one I would even bother to try.

spikes are the way, mini spikes dont have enough spike to pull start with.

I’m curious for any titanium kiss owners, how are they for pull starts?

Ti kisses are less sharp than regular spikes, imho. So at least I have a harder time to do pullstarts with them - but it is possible for sure! You just have to be even more sensitive with your grip.

I know you didnt mention em but pullstarts work great with ultralights as well!

I think Ultralights are actually the second most pull-start-able SE.

@Upmanyu beat me to it.

Agreeing with the other ultralight enjoyers above me.

My favorite part of ultralights is how great they are for pull starts. I like this significantly more than any kind of spike personally, the caveat is just you need some amount of fingernail to make ultralights really nice, if your fingernails are super short you might not like them.

I have short fingernails and can pull start ultra lights no problem they just spin on the end of my finger. The nail never touches them.

definitely harder, the blunt point makes it want to walk around on your finger. if you can kind of wedge it with your fingernail it helps.

Oooh, I just assumed that your finger would stick. ULs really are the ultimate pull start side effect, apart from RSMs lol.

Also they definitely leave an axle hole spaced mark on your nails haha.
I like spikes coz you can do pull starts and then keep it as a matador fingerspin.

It might be a benefit of my fingernail length but I can rotate and do all the typical matador stuff on ultralights. Ultralights kinda feel more forgiving for me because I can death grip them with my fingernails without feeling like I’m losing any extra spin. Where at least for me with spikes I feel like I need to find the right balance between having enough grip to not drop the yoyo, but not too much grip to stop the yoyo from spinning entirely.

Yeah I can never fingerspin with ultralightes! Im jealous coz I sometimes dont prefer the extra weight spikes bring but oh well!

i was thinking if i can grow my nails out into talons, i could do really legit talon grinds at the UL and the rim, lol.
