Sickburn Yo-Yo Workshop Ultem Fixie

…please set it on fire and toss it down a flight of stairs and THEN report back. Asking for a friend.

Thomas, I actually felt pretty bad for a second, until I read what Chris wrote lol

While it is flame retardant and self extinguishes when removed from a flame, lighter fluid burns hot enough to soften it so it could potentially deform when bouncing down the stairs.

Note to self, do not use lighter fluid on yoyo when slinging it around at zombies during apocalypse, stick to homemade napalm for optimal results

Dang, wouldn’t have expected that!

Honestly running it over is extreme. Lighting on fire too. Real world scenarios would be leaving it in a hot car on the dashboard or on pavement on a hot day. Or Leaving it outside or in a garage and it snows so freezer test passed.

will it float if it gets tossed in a pool or if I’m on a boat and it ends up in the river?

Will it take a hit if it smacks concrete, stone, wood, steel, etc (seems to oasss those)

Is it corrosion resistant aka can it sit in sand and salt water at the beach and survive.

is it okay if it sits in a puddle for a few hours or if I’m caught in the rain soaked and it sure in a damp pocket for several hours.

If my kid throws it off a play set does it survive lol.

Also will the axle survive constant use with cotton, poly, nylon, rayon etc string

Ultem is pretty indestructible. Other than being ~30% more dense than water and not floating, I can pretty confidently say it would be totally unphased with everything you’ve listed (but please keep the torture tests coming!). I think the only real world scenario I’d worry about is sitting on it wrong while it’s in my back pocket. Would the axle survive the moment forces of my big behind compressing the rims together on one side?

I got dumps like a truck, so I hope you have an F350 Andy

The biggest question is…

What Throw-Yo string works best with it?

I mean I do wonder about the axle vs various string but yeah that all makes sense to me

I mentioned wanting halves for an FD stem throw in ultem to @arthurfoley at club hoping he would consider it. If not I’m gonna commission someone to rip someone to make some at some point lol

Thick cushy ones have been the best performers for me. Right now I have thick Vapor in one, need to try some serum next.

I’m afraid I don’t have the weight to do a good back pocket smoosh test so I’m gonna have to outsource that to the PIF.

I’ve lost enough weight I’m no longer a good candidate for that test either

I don’t want to get ahead of myself since this is my first potential production yoyo and I might have another proto run to do… but once this one is done my mind has been on the potential of a 2 piece bearing version in the future.

The shop can insert metal threads so the possibility of doing let’s say an mr85 down the line exists as well as the possibility of guts versions using like cabal guts or Druid guts.

Also while pricey the possibility of one offs exist, you can literally do up a design for fd stems, send it to the shop and have a one of a kind, but one offs are costlier per unit.
