Makes sense
Thanks!
At that price, how can I refuse. It’s a little more than I’m typically willing to spend on a single throw, at once, however, not accounting for the charity addition, It’s well within my comfort zone!
Just so it’s extra clear, I’m down in for the full price including charity
Edit: replaced “down” with “in”
sounds like I’m choosing to be charitable
That’s pretty amazing price wise.
I think I forgot to mention the is but in order to get that price I have to front the full order now, 48 units. So this will no longer be a preorder and will be a drop situation.
If I sell them though that’s $1200 to The Trevor Project!
Normal boutique brand launches a run to fund the next and their own yoyo collection addiction.
Big brand drops a release for profits
Andy drops a yoyo to explicitly run a deficit and donate to a charity do the taxes are easier lol
Jokes on me because my taxes are probably gonna be a nightmare next year ![]()
That’s why I’m trying to grab all the protos now before you decide it’s too much of a mess. ![]()
Woops all hassle
There exists a possible future where I just do random protos and sell them at cost and don’t do production runs so this isn’t a bad idea haha.
I love the quote in a quote in a quote in a quote in a blur lol
My wife today suggested the most obvious name for The G. The G-Wiz. I feel dumb actually for having not even considered such an obvious winner ![]()
One more cool thing about the Demons Fun, I’m chatting with the shop this evening and we will not be using traditional titanium anodization. We will be using PVD. Physical Vapor Deposition coating works by vaporizing a solid metal (like titanium or chromium) in a high-vacuum chamber and condensing it atom-by-atom onto a part to create a thin, durable, and corrosion-resistant film. It is commonly used for things like luxury watches to provide a durable coating that can resist being knocked around and banged into stuff. It deposits color and protection while maintaining the surface finish below it, keeping the matte texture. It is also significantly more precise than anodization making the coating more uniform and maintaining tolerances.
This normally costs a lot more money than anodizing but the shop is doing it as a freebie as an apology for the Caramels not working out.
This will be the PVD coating for Demons Fun
Side note but those oil slick pvds look really cool. Maybe I can use one of those in the future. Shiny.
F************** YEAHHHHHHHHHH!!! LEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTSSSSSSSS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
I love me some PVD
Maximum Ef-formatting!

Okay, I withheld my skepticism about the durability of Ultem, so this time I am going to share my thoughts on PVD. Though I think it sounds cool and likely more scratch resistant than Ti anodizing, I think overall it may be less durable. Ti anodizing is literally a titanium oxide crystalline layer that forms on the surface of the metal. The colours are created by increasing the thickness, which changes the crystal’s light refraction properties, causing iridescence and a range of colours. Wear and tear on the anodized layer will cause it to thin over time, which can cause a colour shift. A hard hit will go through the ano. Both are technically healable by re-electrifying the Ti and can be repaired endlessly. (Thinner layers will thicken to match the max thickness at a given voltage.)
I don’t have any experience with PVD, but since it is a plating, it does not bond to the metal surface in the same way that ano does. The ano is seamlessly a part of the metal’s surface, where as the PVD would form a coating on the surface. So though PVD is said to be more scratch resistant, it is also prone to chipping because (a) it’s harder and (b) it’s not actually fused to the metal’s surface.
So in my opinion, anodizing Ti is a better application for yoyos vs. PVD.
My El Tio is annodized. I’ve had it for about two years. I play with it quite a bit, not as much as my RBC, but it at least has 50+ hours of play, maybe a 100. And a bunch of carry including in a open holster where it kept getting banged into the metal hardware around my house
.
Some fine wear around the rim from banging into metal things. No colour fade on the dimple despite TONS of pull starts. No colour fade anywear.
Worst ding: Hard hit against the side of the toilet while my son was brushing his teeth ![]()
Is that the same as the black tivayders?
Counter point: If I’m using my throw, why wouldn’t I want signs of wear and tear? They are badges of honor and reminders to be better. Note: Shelf queens are out of scope since they are specifically not to be thrown (at least, that my understanding)
For example, your famous Blueberry would just be a common, run-of-the-mill Blue RBC if not for wear and tear
Yes, but the RBC is also anodized. Al anodizing is slightly different as it requires dyes to colour it, but overall it’s the same thing.
So both can acquire a patina with heavy use and can wear, fade, scratch and ding. BUT they don’t chip or peel off. It’s like how anodizing is generally preferred over powder coating for Al yoyos.
Edit: And if I did play the El Tio as much as Blueberry, it would certainly be more faded!
