Show some wooden yoyos you've made

Get better, bud! The bugs going around right now are no joke. Sending love and healing your way!

Tonight I tested out a process for roughing out Gnomads on the CNC, and so far it’s been super successful. Even the rough milling is close to the finished/sanded quality and it took half the time!

 Does this mean more and, possibly, easier to access gnomads in the future!? No one seems to want to come off those little suckers :joy:

I’m super interested in how you think the play, one process vs the other. Does the lathe balance them better vs milling?

This do look clean! What model cnc do you have?

That’s the hope!

I should have specified that the change in process is a new toolpath and bit on the CNC, rather than changing from the lathe to CNC. I still finish them on the lathe afterward, so they sort of get both treatments.

I press fit an axle to carefully try them out, and they seem well-balanced so far. I really like this piece of maple lumber - nice straight, evenly spaced grain promises some especially balanced and smooth fixies.

My CNC is a SainSmart Genmitsu 3020 Pro Max (v1).

The fact that cnc isn’t much more than a high grade 3d printer worries me. I need to remind myself I don’t have the space for wood working and junk

I’ll help disabuse you of the thought by mentioning other equipment involved: bench planer, miter saw, table saw, drill press, lathe, air compressor .
Ok not all of those are absolutely required, and I really do support anyone wanting to make wood yo-yos.

Well I got 3 of those but yeah that makes sense.
