SCALES Vol 3 Contest - Q&A and WIN

Hm… that first one is a real interesting question. I personally really dig the Petri as far as slimlines are concerned, but in terms of something inexpensive I can definitely see people using plastics (Antidote, First Base, PLSTC, Replay, etc.). There is a bonus in pro finals for plastics again, it’s +1 point onto your final score.

Good question! I think all judges would approach this differently. For me, it depends on how you’re doing the trapeze on your neck/arm… if you’re doing a trapeze ON your neck/arm, I’d consider that a different trick variation and would score it. But if you have the string wrapped around your arm/neck and do a basic trapeze, I would likely not click it.

Awesome stuff. Here’s a link to sign up - don’t forget!

ok thanks

We have a loose benchmark. We feel as though people who have placed in the top 10 at pro level competitions should be doing pro, but I think overall the point is that you ‘get in where you fit in’. It’s all about what you’re comfortable with. Doing pro gives you the chance to do a 2nd freestyle which is 2 minutes, there’s also higher stakes and more competition. Players who are up for a challenge would consider doing pro. In terms of someone being better than Gentry… probably not likely if they haven’t competed before. Competition experience really helps people become aware of how to compete, and we really wouldn’t expect to see someone come out of nowhere and be so highly skilled like that. Overall, though, we would not be moving anyone to pro without their permission. If we see a name in the amateur list that seems like they belong in pro we would perhaps reach out to them, but we haven’t had to do that for Vol. 2 yet.

@remybaskin or really anyone, does the FreeStyle have to be 1 minute exactly? or can it be like, 1 minute 15 seconds? or maybe less? like 50 seconds?

It can’t be more, but it can be less.

thanks bro.

It says multiple clicks are awarded for high risk elements. Can I get an example? Is a basic suicide or 1 hook qualify? Does a 2.0 hook get the same points as a 3.0 hook?

gracias señor

It says in the rules that 1 point will be added to the final score for using a plastic yoyo, but no metal weight rings are allowed. Does a yoyo with a metal center like say a Wedge still qualify?

all plastic yoyos have metal bearing pegs, so yeah

Wedge is fine  I guess you can consider the rule in regards to yoyos that use metal for extra rim weight and whatnot.

I think something like a 2.5 hook would constitute as a difficult element that would get multiple clicks. Elements don’t exactly have to be risky to score high, but they should be difficult. Normal hook or suicide likely wouldn’t be considered difficult enough to get multiple clicks, however something like a horizontal hook or 360 suicide could get multiple clicks.

Can it be 1:02 with a bow for “dramatic effect/showmanship”? But the final catch is at 1:00 exactly…
