You need to check if the axles on the unresponsive yoyo is short enough to take a half spec I think.

Yes it would. Some YYJ yoyos were sold that way. As noted, you may need a shorter axle with the smaller bearing.

Also, bearing seats. If the posts that sit inside the bearing are tall, they can meet in the middle and prevent you from getting a snug fit on the bearing.

This depends on how far the post sticks through the yoyo body when assembled, which depends on a couple other design elements. It’s not inherent to the side effects.
