Can dings break your string when doing tricks like a finger spin? And if they can, is there anyway to get rid of them?
if it’s bad enough like sharp enough at the right angle in the right spot it certainly can. fine grit sandpaper should take care of it. although, you mention finger spins specifically and if it’s somewhere that it only hits it during finger spins that’s not as bad since the forces exerted during those arent as intense. but better safe than sorry, no one likes a runaway yoyo
Sandpaper, as stated above, is your best friend. I have sanded down some gnarly dings and got the yoyo back to playing good as new.
I’ve never tried sandpaper. I use the underside of a spoon to press the ding back in and then “sand” it down with some old denim or the backside of a leather belt. That has always done the trick for me with any sharp dings.
This happened to me once, it was a while ago, but it was the day my winter solicited came, and it was my first serious (non magic yoyo) yoyo.
I was at my grandparents house, and I recently learned Brent. I did it double under the leg, behind the back, on my elbow, and everyone was watching me suprised
Then I had the idea to do a triple Brent
And I didn’t realize I was over cement
I wasn’t fast enough, and it went straight down into the pavement and left a VERY sharp edge on one of the rims.
At the time, I was also trying to hit a DNA, but the string would wind around the rim, and get really frayed from each time the string would wrap around the yoyo
I never had any broken strings, I just lightly tapped it in with a hammer (but that definitely wasn’t the best idea )
